I work to engage pupils interest by showing how how mathematics knowledge can be applied to solve real-world problems. From early to late secondary school ages, including A level, however I have previously tutored one student of primary school age. The initial lesson would focus on making the student feel at ease with me, and become comfortable whilst working. It's often overlooked that the nerves of a student can be perceived as a lack of knowledge, which is not the case.
Individually designed lessons, planned to support and extend work in school. These will build on strengths while addressing weaknesses. Methods vary depending on how each pupil learns best and will always aim to be stimulating, engaging the pupil to be active in their learning.

I believe in mixing up my teaching based on the material, rather than trying to fit the material into the same pedagogical box. Some classes are better taught focused on a discussion of a single quotation. Others work best by putting five or six authors in conversation with one another. Others thrive when an image, or a series of images, is the focal point of the conversation.
