Each lesson will include a very short 'lecture' and several examples - either examples I make myself or from a homework sheet or exam you want help with. The last few minutes of each lesson will go over what you wish to study in the next session, focusing on specific weaknesses. Then, I can spend the time between lessons preparing illustrative examples and incisive lesson aids that allow you to progress quickly.
I graduated with a Masters in Physics in the summer of 2020 and aim to start my teaching qualifications later this year. My masters project was in biophysics, but I also enjoy teaching theoretical physics and pure mathematics, and can offer help with interview preparation.
I have been tutoring since earlier this year, teaching from KS3 to Bachelor's level in Physics, and from KS3 to KS5 in Engineering and Maths.
2009-2016 - High school, 11A*s and 2As at GCSE, 4A*s and 1A at A-Level, including a Maths A-Level taken a year early at 99% - highest in school. Other A-Levels are Further Maths (A*), Physics (A*), Spanish (A*), General Studies (A). Awarded a scholarship for exam results, and competed for school in various nationwide Maths and Physics competitions and Olympiads.
2016-2019 - Bachelors degree, Trinity College, University of Cambridge, Natural Sciences, 2.1. Includes 3 years of Physics and 2 years of Maths, with modules ranging from Quantum Physics, to General Relativity, to Thermodynamics, to Vector Calculus, to Linear Algebra, to Complex Analysis. Research review on Astrophysics and Gravitational Waves.
2019-2020 - Masters degree, Trinity College, University of Cambridge, Physics, 1st Class. Research project in biophysics (derived a method for predicting the rate of growth of muscles in humans after exercise), and sat exams in Astrophysics, Particle Physics, Quantum Field Theory.
Summer 2018 - Internship at Merseyside Police
2017-2019 - Volunteer at foodbank
Perfect! The lesson was very helpful and now I am able to understand how to work out the questions.
Aleena wants to study at Cambridge so has 9 months to prepare for one exam. I'm confident she will be ready if she continues to be curious and interested - she's acting very proactively to start hard work so early.
Perfect! He is very smart and always to the point. He has very good guiding and explaining skills.
Justin speaks English as a second language, but learns mathematical ideas extremely quickly for a boy of his age. As he becomes more fluent in English over the next few months he will become a very talented young mathematician
Perfect! Tom is great at teaching as he is very thorough and plan his lesson well.
Taimur was initially quite quiet, but after a month of lessons he has become more open and more confident in his maths abilities. He is working ahead of what is expected of him (doing AS standard work in his GCSE year), which deserves a lot of credit
Tom and I attended Trinity College, Cambridge for four years together. I studied Engineering, which has a significant crossover with physics and he and I would often study together. Tom has a knack for explaining complicated and abstract concepts in an intuitive manner, often helping me wrap my head around topics I was stuck on. Having known Tom for many years, I can say that he would make an excellent teacher. He is able to articulate himself very well and express his ideas in a meaningful, impactful manner. He has a true passion for physics and I know he will inspire the same passion in his students.
Tom and I studied at Trinity College, Cambridge together, and I was very fortunate to have supervision classes with him. Ever since I met him he has expressed his passion about teaching and passing on all his knowledge and skills he has gained throughout his academic career. After our classes we would meet and study together, and he would always help explain things I struggled with. He is an incredibly patient teacher, able to break down difficult concepts and make them seem intuitive. Other than being incredibly intelligent, he is also very hard working and effortlessly makes learning physics and maths intriguing.
