My teaching method is to make the material exciting to learn, often reminding my students of the bigger picture and showing them the importance of what they are learning. I also aspire to teach my students to think for themselves rather than to just memorise what they are learning, which sadly a lot of students do when it comes to biology.
I am a 3rd year Zoology student at the University of Sussex, with a first so far (the highest grade boundary). I have yet to give tutoring lessons but am very keen to start! I think teaching/tutoring is one of the most important jobs in society - teachers have the essential role of inspiring their students and
Obtained or ongoing degrees:
I got a level 7 in Biology for the International Baccalaureate (the highest level).
I am currently studying Zoology, with a first so far (the highest grade boundary).
Work experience related to Biology:
I volunteered for a month for Barefoot Conservation in Raja Ampat, Indonesia. I was trained to do fish identification and for surveying techniques looking at different species.
I did an internship for a month at the South African Shark Conservancy, where we did a range of field work including tagging, taking baited remote underwater videos, lab tours and estuary monitoring. We also did work in the lab including cleaning tanks, making bait for fishing, giving lab tours to anybody interested in the general public and making and giving scientific presentations.
Anika is a classmate and friend of mine at University. She goes with the flow, is such a supportive, understanding person and knows a lot about biology! Has helped me a lot with understanding a few of my lessons and was completely non-judgemental if I couldn't understand the content. She always makes sure you're on the same wavelength. So down to earth and helpful. 10/10, would recommend her as a tutor!
Anika is a hard working university student who is very passionate about biology and zoology. She has excelled in many roles of responsibility and is a natural people person. Her love of the sciences and confidence to inspire and engage others makes her an exceptional tutor.
Anika is really hard working, and in my time knowing her she’s been very kind and patient. She always holds herself accountable and will be able to help however she is able.
I've known Anika for almost two years and seen her excel in roles requiring guidance and leadership. She is a natural at simplify complex questions and explain things in an easy-to-understand way. If you're looking for an engaging, fun, and thoughtful tutor, Anika is someone I'd highly recommend!
