Lessons can be given for both national 5, and higher maths, and a teaching plan can be tailor-made to suit a multitude of needs. Whether the student be a visual learner, or somebody who works better copying, and completing set examples, a variety of techniques can be employed to ensure the student is confident in their materials before the end of their course.
I am a current student of university of strathclyde, living in glasgow, looking to provide help and support to students who feel they need a hand understanding or digesting course materials. Having previously given home lessons in national 5 maths, I am looking to gain further experience tutoring, and provide students with a sense of understanding for their course materials
James Connor Owens
I am a third year Mathematics student seeking part time employment. I have 2 years of restaurant waiting experience, with prior volunteering commitments with younger children through charity store work, and The Scouts.
Waiting and Bar work – The Brae, Dreghorn
Between June of 2017 and August 2019, I worked as a waiter and bar man for a bar/restaurant. Upon starting I worked as a food runner and worked my way to the position where I was receiving regular waiting shifts.
Responsibilities in this job included ensuring food and drink were prepared and presented at a high standard, restocking, stock rotation, keeping all work areas clean, and ensuring the customer an overwhelmingly positive experience. I also was keen to learn new skills and take on responsibilities outside of my job description; training new staff, working Kitchen Porter shifts when cover was required, and assisting in the upkeep and appearance of the garden and car park.
This position also allowed me the opportunity to work independently, and also as a key member of a team.
Skills and abilities
As a confident and outgoing individual, I enjoy working as part of a team, with members of the public, with children and pride myself in being a co-operative, patient, and reliable person to work with. I also perform well in situations where a more analytical approach is required, and situations with competitive time constraints, as I find they help me motivate myself, and strive to further improve my efficiency ahead of strict deadlines.
Additionally, I have previously worked with computer systems, and spreadsheets, and I am also happy to take on new tasks and jobs, even those that others may find tedious or repetitive, as I am always eager to learn new skills or improve upon my current set.
Hobbies and interests
As a young boy and teenager, I attended scouts for 11 years, and in that time gained a love and appreciation for camping, spending time in the outdoors, bouldering, and helping others, amongst other activities. I also take interest in charity work, having previously organised a sponsored hike to raise funds for Crohns and Colitis UK, volunteered at a charity store, and worked with young children at scouts. I also enjoy socialising, making new friends, and cooking in my spare time.
