Hello! I am a 20 y/o violinist currently studying on a scholarship place the The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in my 3rd year. All ages and beginners up to an intermediate level welcome. Message for a copy of my CV if you'd like to see it!
My teaching approach will differ depending on the individual pupil as I am aware that people learn in various different ways. For younger pupils, I may suggest a practice diary and half lessons as oppose to to hour long sessions. All pupils will be expected to learn scales according to their own personal levels but lessons will be mostly based on learning the student's desired repertoire. I am happy to teach ABRSM grade exam scales and repertoire should that be something you're looking to achieve.
Without enjoyment, practice and lessons become a chore.
I am always seeking out ways to make every lesson valuable, informative and fun in order to nurture a positive relationship between the student and the violin.
I spent most of my younger life in Scotland, which is where I was born on a remote island in Orkney, and so was involved in many Scottish orchestras growing up such as the Nation Youth Orchestra if Scotland and Edinburgh Chamber Orchestra. I now play in the RWCMD Symphony Orchetstra and Cardiff City Symphony Orchestra as a first violinist. I have had one year experience of teaching violin but would absolutely love to continue with more pupils in the future as I very much enjoy it.
Amy is an excellent tutor, very patient and kind! I love going to lessons with her, she makes them fun and I can see the improvement in my playing after just a short time. 5 stars :-)
Not only is Amy a fantastic violinist, but she is also a lovely and kind person. She is immensely talented, and an all round pleasure to work with. Highly recommend!!
Amy tutored my daughter for a year. B had been learning for a year and Amy was so lovely about assessing where she was at and what B needed to make progress. Amy was always so encouraging, gave sensible goals for my then 11y old daughter to work on during the week and set a good mix of music/tunes and technique and scales for B to work on. Amy was also always willing to play things again and again for B to grasp a new tune... this was huge as B mainly plays by ear. Amy is really missed since she moved south. B would love to be able to continue being tutored by Amy, if only it were practical. I am more than happy to be able to give this recommendation as Amy made a big impact on my daughter at a time when B was finding dealing with new people difficult. B took to Amy straight away due to her gentle (but no nonsense!!), open, honest and friendly approach.
