With maths, it is vital that basic concepts are well understood, and so it is worth spending enough time to make sure that the foundations of understanding are well established. From there example questions and exercises are very important to create a deeper understanding of the subject. Many people find maths quite abstract, and so I try and use my experience of applied mathematics to show them how useful and relevant what they are learning can be.
I am an engineering student at the University of Bristol. While at school I participated in several peer mentoring schemes to develop my mathematical tutoring skills with great results. I have since worked as a youth rugby coach, helping motivate kids to work hard and achieve their potential. In my degree I apply the maths I learned at school every day, and I am passionate about using this context to bring the subject to life.
