Learn piano with fun, engaging lessons! I am a kind, supportive teacher with extensive teaching and performing experience. All ages and standards are welcome, from beginner to Grade 8. I am fully qualified and insured.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach classical and jazz piano.
Many students just learn for pleasure, but for those who wish, I offer preparation for ABRSM piano examinations (Grades 1 - 8). I provide thorough preparation of all parts of the exam (sight-reading, scales and aural tests). My pass rate over 25 years is 100%.
I prepare students for exams given by other boards e.g. Trinity by request.
I teach Theory and Practical Musicianship (Grades 1 - 8).
I offer extra tuition for GCSE and A-Level music.
I give concert and audition preparation e.g. for school scholarships.
I am an accompanist.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I achieved Grade 8 piano with distinction, and also achieved Grade 8 in 3 other disciplines.
I hold the ATCL teaching diploma from Trinity College London.
- How much do you charge?
I usually charge £17 for half an hour, £34 an hour. If I have to travel a long distance to a student's house, I may charge extra, but I will discuss this with the student.
- Where do you teach?
I teach mainly at my home (in East Finchley, Greater London), but I do travel to students' homes depending on parking arrangements, time and location, e.g. Muswell Hill, Hampstead Garden Suburb, Finchley Central, Golders Green, Highgate, North Finchley. I am happy to discuss this with the student.
- When are you available?
For those who would like a prime-time slot (weekdays after school hours and Saturdays / Sundays), I ask for half a term's commitment. I also teach weekday mornings on a pay-as-you-go basis. I usually teach following the school terms but can offer lessons during the holidays on request.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages and standards, from beginner to Grade 8.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching for 25 years. Initially I taught in local schools but then decided to set up my own business and teach from home. I enjoyed working towards my teaching diploma because I learned about many different aspects of the music industry, particularly how to teach those at a very young age and specialist training for those with disabilities.
I have performed as a freelance soloist and accompanist since I was a teenager. I enjoyed very much the variety of work that this entails: performing with choral groups, orchestras, chamber groups and solo work. I performed in a variety of styles: classical, jazz and rock.
