I am an academic and head of centre for the development of social care practice within a UK University. I teach and tutor BSc & MSc social work students, and qualified & unqualified social workers as well as Youth Work student. I use a Student-centred, engaging approach. I engage students in reflection of self and enlist their contribution to the design teaching material to reflect their needs.
My teaching methodologies include the idea of transformative learning - supporting students to move from a novice, less-confident learner to competent and more confident.
I know that how we learn varies form person to person, so design my lesson plans so that they can be tailored to meet varying needs. My lessons include use of power-point, social media tools, case work activities that are designed from real life cases/events and reflective points during lessons to allow for students to ask questions and reflect on learning.
My experience has been over 9 years and includes:
Practice Teacher for Social Work Students
Academic teaching and lecturing in University
Dissertation and literature review supervisor
Individual and group supervisions
Assessment of student work and practice
I have taught every cohort of students in Social Work and Youth work since 2007 and individual feedback plus results of National Student Survey indicates 94% student satisfaction
My rates are variable and negotiable where there is a group of students/tutees who may want to have a joint session.
For example a group session for 4 students for 4 hours is £560.00: based on £35 per person per hour.
A discount of £60.00 would be offered, reducing a 4 hour group lesson/supervision for 4 students/tutees to £500.00
