- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I have the privilege of teaching classical violin, viola and music theory beyond Grade 8 Trinity and ABRSM. I also tutor beginners piano. Originally from Scotland with Irish and Hungarian ancestry, I also have a passion for traditional fiddle and this includes the Irish/British traditions as well as those from the USA, Hungary and other parts of Europe.
A huge benefit of taking lessons with me is that I tutor online which is hugely beneficial especially for rural based clients. It cuts down on clients' petrol, heating, parking charges and time. Already these lessons are proving highly successful because of their didactic qualities too.
I am also of one of only a number of tutors who provide a 'super-tutor' service. This means that I offer my services on a residential basis especially during holiday and weekend periods. The super-tutor service is ideal for students who are seeking places at specialist schools or further education.

- Tell me about your qualifications.
From a young age, I had the privilege of studying with tutors namely Brian Dargie of the Mozart Players of London and Leland Chen, Professor at the Royal Northern College of Music. With the latter, I refined works such as Legende by Wieniawski and the Spring Sonata by Beethoven.
In terms of qualifications, I was one of the last students to have successfully completed and pass an Associate Diploma of the London College of Music qualification in its tougher format. This was a teaching exam which also involved playing Diploma level repertoire. I also hold a Diploma in Music Performance (Dip Mus P in Classical Violin).
I also have a pass in grade 8 music theory. I continued my performance studies at Aberdeen University for a number of years with the Belgian concert violinist Nathalie Van Ballenberghe. Presently, I am continuing my performance studies with a Royal College of Music tutor with a view to completing a post grad at this Conservatoire.
I use a reflective and person centred approach which increases students' self-awareness and therefore confidence. I am also very interested in mindfulness which increases players' awareness and is an ideal approach for music performers.
- How much do you charge?
My fees are:
-Half hour £10-15 -45 mins £15-20 -1 hour £20-25 -'Strings for All workshops' - £55 per day.

- Where do you teach?
I primarily tutor at my home in Eastbourne which is equipped with a vast selection of tutoring books and other materials designed for a comfortable and didactic environment. I am willing to tutor out with to nearby villages and towns such as Brighton if I manage to command a sizeable group of clients in these areas.
This could also include Bexhill, Pevensey, Lewes and Brighton for example. I also tutor in Royal Tunbridge Wells and towns/villages in the vicinity.
- When are you available?
I am available essentially throughout most of the day, everyday apart from Sunday for lessons. I'm also available throughout the school holidays.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I tutor students of all age groups and levels of ability including complete beginners. I am qualified and experienced to teach from pre-grade one to Diploma level or their equivalent.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I prepare my students for pre-grade 1 exams right through to grade 8 using ABRSM, Trinity, London College and other available boards. I have also, in the past, prepared degree level students for recital exams. I have a very good pass rate.
I am equally happy, however, if students do not wish to take exams. I believe that these lessons can also be of huge benefit in terms of fun and that the overall learning experience is both creative and inspiring.
Overall, I am great believer in choice whereby students get the option of deciding what route they want to take and the music they wish to learn. Collaboration is the key.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I am also excited by the fact that for the first time, students and myself can enjoy lessons online. Already, this is proving to be a popular route for potential clients. They work very well. I find that the audio and visual qualities are remarkably good and have surpassed my expectations. I can recommend numerous current online students for references.

- What kind of experience do you have?
I have vast experience tutoring one to one, in pairs and in groups. My students come from all walks of life and range from young children to older adults who have made the decision to start or re-learn a string instrument later in life. I am very grateful to them for inviting me to be their tutor. Also, I have experience of tutoring and developing the strings department at a Montessori influenced school in Scotland. I was a strings tutor for Aberdeenshire schools as well as for a number of privately owned music centres in the local area.
Lastly, prior to relocating to the Sussex area, I organised and ran the north of Scotland's only regular classical/folk violin workshops and masterclasses-Strings for All. The workshops commanded regular press coverage as well as attention from the Aberdeen International Youth Festival who were interested in integrating them into their events.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
yes I have just recently updated my DBS check. It is completely clean and available upon request as are references.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I was extremely lucky to have had a number of great tutors who were also performing violinists.
Each of them passed on something special and unique. They included former Menuhin student Leland Chen, Professor Gillian Findley, Caroline Balding and Paul Anderson.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
Yes I do belong to a professional organisation-the ISM.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
My current students are all talented and have something special and original to offer. They include an older clientele who stopped lessons as teenagers and took up violin again in their mature years.
My other students include students who are determined to pass exams and younger ones who who are inspired and stimulated by learning beautiful and story driven music that is purpose written for their age group.
