About the lesson

Thank you for visiting my profile. I am a trombone player, pianist and published composer/ arranger based in South West London. I am a passionate and experienced music tutor and will be happy to answer any queries you may have.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach trombone to a high level (post grade 8); other brass (Trumpet, Flugel, Tenor Horn, Baritone, Euphonium, Bass Trombone, Tuba) to an advanced level (grade 8); piano to grade 5 and theory/ composition/ arranging for both graded theory exams and as extra tuition for GSCE and A level.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I graduated from the Royal College of Music in July 2012 (principal study trombone) with a BMus (hons).
ABRSM Grade 8 Distinction (Tenor Trombone).
Foundation Scholar (Royal College of Music) 2008-2012.

- How much do you charge?

The first lesson is free! Afterwards, the charge is £20 for half hour lessons and £30 for hour lessons in London. These prices include travel. I am willing to do group lessons up to 3 persons, please ask for details.

- Where do you teach?

I am happy to teach at your home or at my home (Wimbledon SW19). I have a piano at my address. I also teach a whole day on Sunday in Wantage, Oxfordshire. These lessons are given at a central location. I am happy to teach people in Oxford itself, though this would only be possible on the weekend. Please ask for any more details.

- When are you available?

I am available in London on mornings and late afternoon/ evenings during the week and on saturday mornings/ early afternoon. I am very flexible and will accommodate any changes that may be necessary. I teach in Oxfordshire on weekends, please ask for more details.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I am happy to teach any age and any level, from beginners through to advanced, on brass instruments and theory. I am happy to teach beginners to intermediate of any age on piano.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I can prepare students for Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music exams (ABRSM) if desired (though am quite happy to teach without using the ABRSM grade system). I also give extra tuition for those taking GCSE and A Level examinations in Music.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

I am an energetic, enthusiastic and experienced tutor. I love teaching and relish the opportunity not only to pass on some of my knowledge, but to be open to learning myself along the way. Please feel free to get in touch, I will be happy to answer any questions you may have! Thank you.

About Adam

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have been teaching privately for 3 years. I currently have a number of students in both London and Oxfordshire. I have taken part in the Student Associate Scheme, on placement in a secondary school in West London assisting in music lessons from key stage 3 to A level. I have work experience in a primary school and have taken part in workshops and lessons through teaching courses that were part of my degree at the Royal College of Music. I am a tutor on the annual residential (chill-out with music) course at Dunfield House in Herefordshire, run in conjunction with Wantage Youth Brass.

As a trombone player I have played in numerous different ensembles from across Britain. I have played with orchestras, brass bands, jazz bands and brass ensembles of various sizes. I have played with orchestras such as Southbank Sinfonia, RCM Symphony Orchestra (most recently with Bernard Haitink), have taken part in the English National Opera sit-in scheme and the London Symphony Orchestra Brass Academy as well as having played in orchestras for a TV documentary and a recent BBC program. I have a knowledge of many different styles, a friendly yet direct way of communicating and like to demonstrate and play in lessons to develop aural skills as well as encourage students' maximum participation and development of their own practical technique.

As well as a performer, I arrange and compose music for brass ensembles of different shapes and sizes. My arrangements have been played in Australlia, on television (Eisteddfod), by the Royal College of Music Symphonic Brass Ensemble and feature in a number of brass bands' and ensembles' regular repertoire. My work is currently published by Kirklees Music (Brighouse).

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

I have a CRB check dated from 2008. If a more recently dated one is required, it will be supplied.

- Where and with whom did you train?

I studied at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music with Paul Milner (Principal Bass-trombone- London Symphony Orchestra) and Roz Davies (Second Trombone- Halle Orchestra). Whilst at the Royal College of Music I studied with Roger Harvey (Co-Principal Trombone- BBC Symphony Orchestra) and Lindsay Shilling (Principal Trombone- Royal Opera House Covent Garden).

- Tell me about some of your current students.

I currently teach students based both in London and Oxfordshire over a wide age range (6-60). I have beginner students as well as those studying at higher levels. I have a great working relationship with all of my students and lessons are individually tailored to ensure maximum enjoyment and maximum learning. I have a 100% pass rate in exams and thoroughly enjoy being a part of each individual's journey and progression whilst learning with me and beyond.
