About Adam
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching privately for 3 years. I currently have a number of students in both London and Oxfordshire. I have taken part in the Student Associate Scheme, on placement in a secondary school in West London assisting in music lessons from key stage 3 to A level. I have work experience in a primary school and have taken part in workshops and lessons through teaching courses that were part of my degree at the Royal College of Music. I am a tutor on the annual residential (chill-out with music) course at Dunfield House in Herefordshire, run in conjunction with Wantage Youth Brass.
As a trombone player I have played in numerous different ensembles from across Britain. I have played with orchestras, brass bands, jazz bands and brass ensembles of various sizes. I have played with orchestras such as Southbank Sinfonia, RCM Symphony Orchestra (most recently with Bernard Haitink), have taken part in the English National Opera sit-in scheme and the London Symphony Orchestra Brass Academy as well as having played in orchestras for a TV documentary and a recent BBC program. I have a knowledge of many different styles, a friendly yet direct way of communicating and like to demonstrate and play in lessons to develop aural skills as well as encourage students' maximum participation and development of their own practical technique.
As well as a performer, I arrange and compose music for brass ensembles of different shapes and sizes. My arrangements have been played in Australlia, on television (Eisteddfod), by the Royal College of Music Symphonic Brass Ensemble and feature in a number of brass bands' and ensembles' regular repertoire. My work is currently published by Kirklees Music (Brighouse).
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have a CRB check dated from 2008. If a more recently dated one is required, it will be supplied.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I studied at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music with Paul Milner (Principal Bass-trombone- London Symphony Orchestra) and Roz Davies (Second Trombone- Halle Orchestra). Whilst at the Royal College of Music I studied with Roger Harvey (Co-Principal Trombone- BBC Symphony Orchestra) and Lindsay Shilling (Principal Trombone- Royal Opera House Covent Garden).
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I currently teach students based both in London and Oxfordshire over a wide age range (6-60). I have beginner students as well as those studying at higher levels. I have a great working relationship with all of my students and lessons are individually tailored to ensure maximum enjoyment and maximum learning. I have a 100% pass rate in exams and thoroughly enjoy being a part of each individual's journey and progression whilst learning with me and beyond.
