- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I can prepare students for grades if they wish, up to and including grade 8.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
My main concern regarding teaching is simply to inspire students to open their minds.
Its not just about me teaching you your favourite songs, but I like students to understand the music so you can teach them to yourself, which is why there is also some attention to theory and technique. We will aim to make you a well-rounded player, comfortable and confident with the guitar, regardless of level or playing context. For the advanced student, we will work towards a more thorough knowledge of the instrument through scales, analysis of your favourite music, and generally more challenging material. Lessons are obviously tailored to the journey that each student is on, beginner or advanced, casual or serious.
The main objective is simply to have a good time learning to play. Music can enrich our lives no matter what level.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have over 12 years playing and 7 years teaching experience tutoring mostly 1-to-1, but I have also led workshops in schools and community projects, such as Mzansi Cymru. Past and current students really do vary from young children to adults, who may be returning to the guitar after a while or picking it up for the first time. I have played in many groups over the years, from duos to big bands, and have been fortunate enough to travel around the UK, and to Italy and India to play music, and in August 2012 I performed at the Royal Albert Hall with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

I attended a two-week intensive jazz school in Siena, Italy, where I studied with world renowned guitar players Peter Bernstein (USA), Ben Monder (USA) and Mike Moreno (USA). I also studied classical guitar with Mike Lease.
