I am an Operatic Tenor currently working in London, I can teach Voices of any type and genre, as well as piano coaching. From beginner to budding star, I can help!
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
Voice (Classical, Musical Theatre, Jazz and Pop) and Piano.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
BA in Music and Drama from the University of Hull
MMus in Vocal Performance from Trinity Laban conservatoire of Music and Dance
- How much do you charge?
Consultation is £15 for a 45 minute consultation
Vocal Coaching: £35 for 1 Hour or £120 for 4 lessons
Piano Coaching: £30 for 1 Hour or £100 for 4 lessons
Musical Theory: £25 for 1 Hour
- Where do you teach?
I have a studio at my home, with a Bechstein Grand Piano and audio equipment should it be required. If a more central location is required I can (with advanced notice) book time at Jacques Samuels Piano studios or Marylebone Lane Music studios. Both these locations would incur an extra cost (approx. £8 room hire)
- When are you available?
My dates are flexible, but I teach mostly on Wednesdays and Thursdays
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I can teach from young to old, for fun or for grades. I have a complete knowledge of Grade Exam requirements for ABRSM and Guildhall. But If you don't want to do grades you don't have to, our lessons should be whatever you want them to be!
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
Entirely up to the student. When we have a consultation we can discuss your goals and what you want from the lessons. I will base our progress on that.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
Music theory can easily be discussed and talked about over Skype. I can send theory papers via email, and work through them on the call.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
If you are looking for a teacher who takes a real interest in your development, who is not simply quoting from a textbook and who wants to help you create pure natural sound, then I am your guy! My teachers and myself have been taught by Janice Chapman, so I have real understanding of the physiological processes that go on in your throat. I know how sound should be produced and how to stop you singing in an un-natural way.
I look forward to hearing from you, and if you simply have questions about the idea of musical education please get in touch, its never too late or early to start!
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have taught several pupils over my professional career, and can provide references. I am an established performer in London, and I
have conducted amateur and professional choirs. I sing with professional groups such as ENO Opera Works, Philharmonia chorus and Apollo5 (sister group to VOCES8).
I have a large amount of solo experience; singing for private functions and concerts in England and abroad. CV and biography is available on my website.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have a current CRB Enhanced Check
- Where and with whom did you train?
In Chronological order:
Marcus von Den Akken
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of the Associated Studios at Riverside, a group that specialises in educating professional Opera/Musical Theatre singers and also has its own production company 'Word Press' I am also studying with English National Opera on their 'Opera Works' course for Opera Singers. I am an ENO young patron and a member of the ISM (Incorporated Society of Musicians)
- Tell me about some of your current students.
