- Do you have a personal message for students?
My approach to teaching has various steps. Firstly, I have been taught, and learnt from my own experience, that preparation and planning is paramount. I access what has to be achieved and then plan steps towards the final result - obviously, from experience, you have to learn to adapt these and spend time where it is needed more depending on the student. Teaching is also about making the topic interesting, by practical testing and application. This frequently has a more positive reaction and is more likely to capture the student.
- What kind of experience do you have?
After graduating from St Andrews University with a masters degree in Geography, I was accepted onto a Graduate Teaching Programme based in London. I passed Literacy, Numeracy and ICT QTS Tests, attended teaching lectures and gained 4 months intense experience working as a teaching assistant at a top primary school in Fulham. This often involved small group and individual tutoring for students with special requirements and also particularly gifted pupils.
I began tutoring for a top London tutoring company in 2009 and have since also tutored privately for long-term clients. I have experience with children from the ages of 7 to 16, predominantly in Geography, English and Music subjects.
I also teach the piano as part of my Piano Teaching Diploma qualification. This requires a similar approach to tutoring with regards to preparation, communication and generating enthusiasm.
