- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach KS1 and KS2 (literacy and numeracy) and GCSE study skills.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
My tutoring style focuses on promoting students' self-confidence and self-esteem. I encourage students to develop a growth-mindset approach to learning. Research has shown that those with a growth mindset tend to implement learning goals which focus on increasing knowledge and view utilisation of effort as a positive behaviour trait and challenge themselves with activities that help them build on skills and abilities.
I teach to each student's strengths while improving areas of weaknesses. This provides students with a meaningful educational experience where they develop autonomy over their own learning and develop an understanding of how to use strategies that work best for them.
In the first consultation with a student, we will explore their strengths, needs and goals. We will discuss how best we can work together to achieve their desired outcomes.
- What kind of experience do you have?
In my undergraduate degree, I have studied the psychological theories underpinning teaching and learning. Modules I studied include; Psychology and Education and Neurodevelopmental Disorders.
My previous job role as an SEN Teaching Assistant gave me a good understanding of the National Curriculum and National academic expectations. I have 5 years experience supporting students academically and making the curriculum accessible for SEND pupils. In my current employment as an Assistant Educational Psychologist I apply psychology to improve and monitor Social, Emotional and Academic outcomes.
I am experienced in implementing strategies specific to the needs of children and young people experiencing ADHD, ASD, Executive Function difficulties. I use evidence based interventions for Dyslexia and Dyscalculia which are baselined, tracked and evaluated to monitor progress. I use CBT skills which helps children and young people understand the links between their thoughts, feelings and behaviour to help manage anxiety/stress.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
