I have recently finished my MMus postgraduate studies at the RNCM specialising in classical guitar performance. As well as my college studies, I have a busy performance and teaching schedule.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I have a BMus qualification in classical guitar from the RNCM but also teach acoustic guitar and piano to grade 8 level. I am also able to teach music theory up to Grade 8 standard.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a BMus (Hons) from the RNCM. I have grades 1-8 ABRSM Guitar, 1-8 ABRSM Piano and 1-8 ABRSM Music Theory.
I gained a distinction for Grade 8 Guitar, merit for Grade 8 Piano and 87% for Grade 8 Theory.
I also hold a full drivers licence and have an enhanced CRB.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £25 per hour for guitar, and £20 per hour for piano or theory. I can give group lessons to guitar and theory students which would be at a discounted rate. If you pay for 10 lessons in advance, you can save 5%.
- Where do you teach?
I am based in Withington, Manchester but will travel if you live locally. I would be willing to travel locally.
- When are you available?
I am available in the evenings and at weekends. I am very busy touring during the summer holidays but am based in Manchester during academic term time.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages and levels for guitar. I can teach up to grade 8 piano and theory.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
If a student would like to work towards graded exams, I will teach them the ABRSM syllabus. For electric guitar, there is a grade system called 'Rock School' which I teach.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I am easily contactable via the internet. I have a website, email address, msn messenger and a skype account. If a student would like to ask some questions or would like some advice online, they are more than welcome to contact me by any of these means.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I am a friendly, enthusiastic teacher who aims to making music lessons fun and enjoyable. I really enjoy teaching music and meeting new people. Any questions, don't hesitate to ask! :-)
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching private students for the last 7 years and I have also been teaching in schools since June 2010. I currently have 40 pupils who study classical guitar or piano. I am also a co-founder of the Manchester Guitar Academy.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes, I currently hold an enhanced CRB certificate.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I gained my BMus from the RNCM studying with Craig Ogden and Gordon Crosskey. Prior to my studies at the RNCM, I studied with Michael Lewin at the Junior Royal Academy of Music in London.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of ISM, a union for professional musicians and I'm also a member of the Registry of Guitar Tutors.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I have a wide range of students at the moment; some are interested in classical guitar and are working towards grades. Others are more interested in learning chords and playing more popular songs. I also teach some group lessons at a school in Cheshire.
