About the lesson
I am passionate about music making in all its forms. I would not be where I am now without the inspiration of the fantastic teachers I have had along my way. I have always had such enjoyment from learning my instruments, and I aim to create the same fun and challenging environment in which my students can develop. I appreciate the importance of adapting to a student's needs; whilst still incorporating the necessary fundamental techniques, pieces can be chosen according to preference and practice styles can be experimented with to get the most effective development. There is also a massive difference between a grade 5 flute player that has learnt the pieces and jumped through the hoops, and a grade 5 flute player that has been exposed to a wide variety of repertoire, explored many musical styles, and learnt about theory and musical history along the way. All this said, the most important part of learning an instrument is to have fun!!
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I am able to teach the Bassoon, Flute, Saxophone and Clarinet. I am also passionate about Chamber Music, so would welcome any teaching of intimate wind groups, ie. wind quintets, wind quartets or small groups of like instruments.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I am a recent graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music, with a 2:1 Bachelor of Music Honors. My course was practical based, with an emphasis on learning about styles of musical genre, improving ensemble skills and overall performance technique. I also have my grade 5 ABRSM piano, therefore I can accompany students in their early stages of instrumental development.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £20ph for 1-1 lessons, or £25-30ph for small groups (2+, depending on size). I will not charge extra for travel costs.
- Where do you teach?
I can teach at my property, which has an electric piano for accompanying purposes. I am also willing to travel around the South Yorkshire Area (Sheffield, Barnsley, Doncaster, Dronfield), Manchester and Stockport.
- When are you available?
I am available every week day and weekend- daytimes and evenings, excluding Friday evening.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach all ages! And all levels on the Bassoon, from beginner to accomplished performer.
Up to ABRSM grade 7 Clarinet, grade 6 Flute and grade 6 Saxophone (of all sizes).
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I am very familiar with ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall instrumental Syllabus. I can also prepare students for public performances/ensemble auditions.

About Amy
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have a wide variety of teaching experiences, from large mixed ensembles through to 1-1 lessons. I have worked for Derbyshire Music Partnership for 4 years, delivering whole class tuition to 8-11yr old woodwind players; and have also had the experience of teaching adult beginners in a 'grade-one-a-thon' charity fund raiser event. I coach a wind quintet on a weekly basis, using my personal experience being part of a multi award winning quintet to inspire others to get great enjoyment from playing together with their peers. Through my work with 'Manchester in Hospitals' I have also been exposed to teaching pupils with mental/learning/physical disabilities.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes, I have full, up-to-date enhanced CRB which is especially for working with children. I received this through Derbyshire County Council and can produce the certificate on request.
