The Online Physics Tutor, helping students to understand Physics, Chemistry and Maths and to achieve higher grades. I am an excellent communicator of science and maths, with the ability, understanding and resources to get the best out of my students.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
Mainly Physics, but can also Chemistry and Maths.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
BSc in Physics, a Postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) specialising in science, I am a fully qualified teacher with (QTS), a Masters degree in Nanoscience (MSc) a PhD in Chemical Physics.
- How much do you charge?
Weekdays Monday- Friday
Day time 8am - 5pm £55
Evening 5:30pm-9:30pm £65
Saturday 8am-2pm £70
Payments are taken in arrears at the end of each calendar month, via bank transfer, Paypal, Paym or cheque.
- Where do you teach?
I teach online.
- When are you available?
My open hours are:
Monday - Thursday 8am - 10pm
Saturday 8am -2pm
My availability is continually being updated, so please get in touch for current available slots.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
Most of my pupils are studying for A levels, IGCSEs, GCSEs or IB in Physics, Chemistry and Maths, but I have also taught students from primary school students through to undergraduates and mature students.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
AS, A2, GCSE, iGCSE, IB, for all exam boards. University entrance exams. First year undergraduate Physics.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
Tutorials online are conducted over Skype, FaceTime or Zoom using BitPaper. This means students can see me and talk to me via a video call. BitPaper is an interactive white board used by both myself and my student, it is web based so only a web browser is required. This allows students to work with me on problems, and keep their tutorial notes in one place for revision. I also used a wide range a range of animations and online resources, which are carefully selected to improve understanding.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I quickly find the problems that you are having, then rebuild your knowledge or correct their misconceptions. I then build a clear and easy to understand a picture. I set challenging questions and assignments to drive, encourage and push a students outside of tutorials. This helps to carefully assess a student's knowledge and give them a clear understanding. I will work through problem solving, examination techniques and confidence building exercises to improve students' performance in any exam. Ultimately driving students towards their best, while making the learning process fun and enjoyable.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I am a fully qualified teacher with over nine years teaching and tuition experience. I am also a practicing physicist, producing cutting edge research for future solar technology. Working as an examiner has given me a detailed understanding of the major exam boards in the UK. So if you, or someone you know, wants to learn physics and get higher grades please get in touch.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes I have an up-to-date DBS which is available on request.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I am a professional tutor with ten years teaching and tutoring experience. In 2005 I graduated from Leeds University with a BSc Physics, having achieved the second highest mark in the year. I received a PGCE (post graduate certificate in education) from Nottingham University in 2007. After which I completed an NQT followed by two years at the Brunts School in Mansfield, with particular success teaching GCSE and A-level. In 2011 I started tutoring part time while studying for a Masters in Nanoscience from the school of Chemistry at Nottingham University. I graduated in 2012 having achieved the highest mark in the history of the course (79.3%), while my tutees have made massive improvements.
I have obtained a PhD in chemical physics. This involved using X-ray based techniques to analyse molecules and nanostructures on surfaces. The primary goal was to investigate charge transfer between these nanostructures and various surfaces. Charge transfer is very important for solar cells and organic LEDs and his research leads to fundamental understanding of the physics behind these technologies. Part of this work involved attending MAX-Lab IV in Lund, Sweden and Soleil in Paris to which involved using a synchrotron, which is an X-ray producing particle accelerator. I hope that this research will lead to developing new technologies for light flexible displays and low cost solar power generation.
Now that I have finished my PhD, tutoring is now my full time job.
I do not offer the first lesson for free.

“Andrew, is definitely and amazing tutor, he had helped me understand physics in more depth, and whenever I am struggling in a section he helps me by demonstrating in every single way so that I can understand it more. Also he provides me with further difficult questions because if I can do them with no problem then the exam should be very easy. He is a fantastic person and a lovely tutor.”
“Andy is a very qualified tutor. He demonstrates the tutorial with visual materials and an electronic board which is very useful for a better understanding. I was really struggled with physics but when I started my tutorials with him I have developed my performance very well and I got a distinction in my final examination for my first semester. I strongly recommend anyone who struggles with Physics to contact him.”
“I received a D in january and really struggled to understand where the complex points of Physics came from. But within the first couple of weeks of having Andy, my basic understanding of multiple areas in physics was enhanced greatly. My results speak for him, as i got an A in my physics A levels, only several marks off an A-star, and i am now going to Manchester University. Thank You Andy!”
