Anton - Highgate - Music Theory

Methodology

Hello. Please see my answers to the below questions to find out a little about me and how I teach. I am looking forward to hearing from you!

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I primarily teach cello and chamber music, but I am also able to offer piano and theory/general musicianship lessons.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I hold a first class Bachelor of Music from the Royal College of Music, where I was a student from 2010 to 2014. I graduated on the cello, although I also studied the piano as a second study for my first two years.

- How much do you charge?

I generally charge £55 per hour, however I take each individual's circumstance/situation into consideration.

- Where do you teach?

I prefer to teach at home where I have a nice space, however I am prepared to travel within zones 1-3 of North London.

- When are you available?

I am flexible, although I prefer mornings or evenings. I am also happy to teach weekends and I work through the school holidays.
It is easier to arrange a regular slot, but I can organise lessons with students on a week-by-week basis if this is appropriate.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I teach all ages and all levels from beginner to grade 8+
(For piano I do not teach beyond Grade 6)

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I prepare students for the following:
ABRSM and trinity examinations
Regional/national orchestral auditions.
Music College entry (cello only)

- Do you have a personal message for students?

It sounds like an obvious thing to say, but it is incredibly important that the student/teacher relationship is well matched and balanced. Learning an instrument is not easy and it is important to find a teacher with whom you are willing to try out new things without fear of failing. Playing music is more than instrumental technique; our instruments are instruments through which we tell stories and convey emotions and it is an incredibly rewarding skill to develop. It is also important that one is willing to practise regularly and developing this discipline serves one well for the rest of one's life. Regarding the former point, I will always start with a consultation lesson.

Good luck!

Background

- What kind of experience do you have?

I was born into a family of teachers; I have vivid memories of sitting quietly in the corner as a child while my mother taught the piano in her music room at home. I started teaching privately in my first year at the Royal College of Music. Since then I have grown a considerable class of private students and I currently teach in two schools in London. For a time I taught cello and occasionally chamber music at the Royal College of Music (junior department).

My students range from beginner to advanced, children and adults.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

I currently hold a valid DBS certificate.
