I believe the best way to learn is through understanding, memorization is also key but it is not the only factor. I try to make the process of learning a simple and enjoyable one.
However some concepts can be harder to grasp than others. For this reason I tend to favor, what I call, the IED RDP* Method to teaching maths: Identify, Explain, Demonstrate, Replicate, Deviate, Perfect. In the past, when a student was struggling with a particular concept, rather than repeat something over and over, I soon discovered that it was far more effective to:
> (I) IDENTIFY the source of the misunderstanding.
> (E) Give practical EXPLANATIONS using drawings, illustrations and related concepts.
> (D) DEMONSTRATE step by step methodology to solving problems.
> (R) Support the student as they REPLICATE the steps correctly.
> (D) Once the student is ready to DEVIATE from the questions demonstrated and tackle more challenging problems of relevance, they are provided with the encourgagement and direction they require to progress at their own rate.
> (P) Soon each student attains their desired level of PERFECTION in the concept through varied practice.
All of the students who received my support graduated with a distinction (80-95% Overall). Qualifications and references available upon request.

Hello, I am a student at the Queen's University of Belfast studying Applied Mathematics & Physics.
I recently discovered my flair for teaching, as a student on the Queen's University Access Course, when I was approached by my fellow students for guidance. I discovered that I have a real knack for teaching maths and I enjoy helping others develop a deeper understanding in the subject.
I have attained a distinction (95% overall) in the Queen's University Access Diploma in Mathematics & Engineering.
