I am a great believer in tailoring my teaching methods to my specific students. As Einstein once said, "If you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life thinking its stupid." I am currently working mainly at KS3 level in a variety of core subjects, however I myself have studied up to degree level and will be starting my PGCE in September 2017. I have a true passion for learning and I want to share that enthusiasm with my students; to prove that learning doesn't just take place inside the classroom, and it doesn't have to stop when you leave either. Every single day, we get to learn something new and hopefully those things I will be able to teach you will be be a great asset to preparing you for your exams.
I am currently a learning mentor in a very diverse secondary school, working mainly within KS3 and more specifically Year 11. I run English Support classes, as well as being a mentor in a number of lessons (my key areas are History, Geography and English Literature) and also giving 1:1 support to students who need the extra push with their studies. The support I offer students covers a variety of areas: it could be help with confidence in a subject, how to revise, essay planning, or even just someone to support their ideas in the classroom. My role is invaluable to the pupils I work with, and I want to share that with as many pupils as I can.
I have seen my students become more attentive in lessons, where their confidence has developed I can see they are starting to think outside the box; helping them to achieve and surpass their expected grades.
I have been on archaeological digs, study tours abroad, and also given presentations at the British Museum, all of which have given me a brilliant insight to some of the world's most magnificent heritage sites; and I truly believe experiencing something first-hand is a key to fully understanding our past.
I can teach Geography, English Literature and History to A Level standard, and Archaeology and Ancient History up to degree level. Charges will be slightly different depending on the level of teaching, but this can all be discussed if you are interested in my sessions!
At GCSE level I attained 2 A*s, 5 A's, 2 B's and 2C's, following on from which I received BBBC at A Level (with 2 further AS Levels) which ultimately saw me graduating in 2014 from the University of Birmingham with a degree in Ancient History and Archaeology.
I have taken part in an archaeological dig at Shakespeare's House in Stratford-Upon-Avon, using archaeological methods to find the remains of an early 19th century theatre built upon the land. I have also volunteered at Durham University Conservation Department, and Worcester Archaeology Department, where I experienced and developed a wide range of archaeological techniques. As well as this, I have also been fortunate enough to travel to famous ancient landmarks around the world including: Pyramids of Giza, the Colosseum and Ancient Forum in Rome, Pompeii and Herculaneum, as well as climbing Mt. Vesvius and the Acropolis. My passion for teaching History and Geography is something I hope I can share with my pupils in all of my tutoring sessions.
I currently work and support Year 11 GCSE students in a wide range of core subjects. This opportunity has allowed me to gain more confidence in my teaching ability, by seeing how far my support and guidance has developed my student's own skills, both in the classroom and reflecting in their results. I have learned first hand how best to support students in their transition from KS2 to KS3, and ultimately preparing them for their transition into A Levels as well.
