About the lesson

Having tutored since 2008, I have come across students with different needs and mindsets. Experience of over 10 years in the industry has made me an "outlier". I relate to my students & personally make sure to keep in touch with them almost everyday to ensure if they have any question regarding past papers, exam kit or question bank, I am there to answer.

The most important ingredient to pass these professional exams is "time management'. Half of the battle is to complete the exam keeping consistent with the terminology/calculations what examiner expects from each applicant.

My involvement in the process is to make sure I keep an eagle eye on my tutees, pushing them to the limits to gain higher marks with the help of deliberate practice and making the whole experience as enjoyable as I could.

Coupled with technical knowledge & effective exam techniques which are continuously shifted to the tutees will not only get them passes, but will also get them to the category of high achievers.
75% - 80% plus is quite normal among my tutees.

I am very patient and committed to my students. I firmly believe in assessing the student's understanding on a particular subject, level of competence and then hitting the high notes, giving top priority to exam techniques, question bank and past papers.

About Bicky

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have been teaching since 2008 and my fundamental objective is to get them through decently.
Considering myself as a problem solver for students has given me an edge over others and has made me confident. Equipped with a strong working knowledge of real world accountancy & finance has conceptually made me very clear with the subjects of listed professional bodies.

Post exam qualified experience has enabled me to evaluate students' understanding on particular subjects and then deciding the level of approach.
Students who are novices would be given attention from the basics & those who are familiar with the concepts and need a little push, would be moved directly on to past exam papers and examination kit.

When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

When I was in my teens, I always knew what I wanted to do in life and that was Chartered Accountancy. I belong to a family of educators. My mum, uncle and aunties are all teachers and so was my grandfather. When I finished my studies, I really wanted to do something with my acquired knowledge, and my passion for helping others naturally took me to tutoring.
My first tutee was from KPMG. I still remember it well. It was a Saturday and I got there early morning to teach for a couple of hours. He liked my teaching style so much that he asked if I could teach him the next day, too.

After assisting him for a total 16 hours over that weekend, this whole new journey started for me. After that weekend, he became my permanent student until his case study. Since then, I started accumulating tutees and never looked back.

Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

My Financial Reporting and Audit Assurance teachers at Kaplan Financial. They are truly decent human beings and a genuine inspiration. They had a real interest in the subjects they taught and were always available for any query we had. I have the same attitude towards my students, keeping myself available 24/7 for them, and take pride in what I teach and practice.

  • 04

What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

As five fingers are never the same, no tutee is same. Therefore, adjusting to meet individual needs is one of the most important traits a good tutor must have. Ability to listen, being patient not only in the beginning but throughout the engagement, adaptable to the constant changes and making concepts as easy as possible. Ability to convey complex terms and calculations into simplest form. Reviewing progress and making any necessary changes to ensure the tutee is performing at his/her best iis also important.

Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I helped one of my classmates while undertaking my qualification. He was really struggling and was thinking of opting out as he couldn't take the pressure exams created. When I heard he was planning exit strategy, I sat down with him and listened to why he decided to quit. I'd say it was my first encounter to real-life challenge of which I had a clear solution. Not only did I help him with his exams but I also made him realise the perks of being a Chartered Accountant. I was persuasive enough to change his mind. He passed all his exams and is now an active member of ACCA.

  • 06

What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

Financial Reporting standards are getting revised constantly to address the latest issues when applying the treatments. Tax rules are changing each year to improve fiscal policy on which our Government heavily relies on. Therefore, keeping myself afresh with new information is a challenge but also enjoyable. It enables me to continuously assess how our economy is progressing.

  • 07

Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something different?

Because my passion is teaching/helping, I am in this profession. My work gets me out of bed each morning. Before my alarm clock goes off, I am in bed looking forward to the day ahead, thinking about the difference I could make, bringing positive changes to make someone's life better. I can't think of doing anything else even if I get the chance at a second life.

    What makes you a Superprof?

Having taught thousands of students successfully since I started in 2008, I have formed an unattachable desire to keep my legacy alive. My secret of success is common sense: what I say counts and I put it into action. Whatever I commit to, I deliver. I don't believe in cancellations, I take my work very seriously and am super focused on results. I tend to know my students, their parents, their friends, I am actually part of their lives. Because I know them, I can better understand their problems and solve them as they arise.
