Hi! I am a History and Art History post-graduate currently in the application stages for Doctoral research. My mission is to help students of all stages (Key Stage 3 to University level) to achieve confidence in their subjects. I have been tutoring for over five years and have found that the development of a confident writing style is the key to academic success.
I will use our first session to discuss the areas in need of improvement, your expectations and the timeframe in which to achieve these results. Through a combination of essay review, practise papers (if required), revision timetabling and writing structure workshops we will work together to build confidence and precision in your academic practice.
Aside from all of the practicalities of my sessions, my mission is to make your subject FUN! Having a passion for the humanities from a very young age but also having experienced the gruelling education system, I am acutely aware of how challenging it can be to actually enjoy your subjects. Yet, it is also my firm belief that academic success is a byproduct of enjoyment. This is why I prioritise organisation with my students. By working effectively and efficiently we will break down the subject into workable pieces so that we can ultimately work towards achieving your academic goals.
My academic specialities are in History and History of Art, though a great love of literature and art means I have substantial experience in both as well. I received A grades across the board for my A-level (History, Philosophy and Ethics and an A* in English Literature (98%).
I first began tutoring by holding academic lunchtime surgeries at school for GCSE History students as the Head of the school's History society. After finishing school I went on to continue tutoring GCSE level History, English Literature, English Language and Art. All of my GCSE students went on to achieve A - A* grades and later 7-9 grades. I then expanded my repertoire to include A-level students with the addition of the HIstory of Art A-level. In the final year of my undergraduate degree, I expanded my base again to include university-level work where I have worked with a number of students on exam preparation, essay structure and dissertation review. All of these students went on to achieve high 2:1's and First class classifications in their assessments. I also have substantial experience in portfolio-building for a-level art assessment.
The dissertations for both of my degrees have received high acclaim and have led to independent publishing and further research work with curators and conservators. As a result, I am keen to share my passion for academia and help you flourish in your subject!
I would describe myself as an incredibly motivated and enthusiastic person and would invariably strive to pass on these traits to you and your academic practice. Whether it's working towards a university offer, simply building confidence in your subject, or pushing that grade a little harder, I am here to listen and work with you to get you the best results possible!

Emma tutored me in Art History for a period of six months including help with coursework, exam prep and essay structure. She was a huge help, and really increased my knowledge and confidence in the subject. I was really able to solidify my understanding of university level essay structure which really impacted my degree.
Highly recommended History tutor! Emma tutored my daughter through her school exams and was able to successfully demystify the process. They were able to set up a very useful revision plan together and work with a variety of methods to build my daughter’s coursework and exam confidence! Cannot recommend enough!
