I’m Rosie. I live in rural Rainham and make ceramic art in my back garden. My greatest passions have always been art and education. I am autistic, late diagnosed, and have used art as a way of therapy throughout my whole life. I feel extremely lucky that I was encouraged to draw as a child and this helped me stay true to my passion through adversity. I want to pass on my knowledge and passion to anyone who will listen!
In 2016, I received a first class degree, with honours, in Fine and Applied Art. I specialised in ceramics and won the Valentines Clay Award for my carved seedpod ceramic artworks, and was long-listed for the Turner Platform Award.
It was during this time that my love for both teaching and art history also came alive! I went on to study a Masters Degree at Kent University in History and Philosophy of Art.
I was also ceramic technician for the Ceramics Department of Augustine Art Centre (CCCU), and doing an artist residency at the uni, all at the same time. Something had to give and unfortunately it was me.
I had a mental health crisis. I realised that I was cramming way too much into my life at that point. I deferred University and realised that I was constantly thinking about making art, so changed my goals up a bit!
I started up pottery lessons in my cabin, creating a unique and playful experience for my students, and having so much fun myself too!
Then wham bam thank you ma’am corona hit, and well, I’m sure you’re just as sick of it as I am, but it taught me something too! I discovered that I am autistic. This means that I am intensely passionate about what I love, can hold onto information like a lizard on a rock, and have high empathy for others. My autism is what makes me a good artist and a good teacher.
I welcome all, and want to delve into art with you!
