Having a background in commercial art and design and teaching, I have delivered to adults and worked in various schools and colleges on different projects. Courses have included both non-accredited and various accredited courses and these have also included many years in the adult education sector linked to Ofsted requirements.
I believe in instilling confidence in students, both in themselves and their work and to enable them to be able to meet future challenges, both in their work and life in general.
Lessons are structured to include revisiting previous learning, highlighting cultural and functional skills links. Students are encouraged to discuss their work and explore different approaches and ideas, and always consider alternatives. An integral part are demonstartions to highlight techniques and effects and to encourage opinions and feedback from students.
I have worked in both the commercial art and design field and teaching for many years having taught several hundreds of students.
Achievements have included students moving onto degree courses, having their own exhibitions, gaining employment including volunteering in local galleries, and organising community art groups.
Having achieved the diploma membership of the Royal Society of Industrial Artists and Designers, I progressed to the PGCE and have been teaching initially in adult education for many years and have been a practising artist before and after my art college days.
I have achieved many successes in the commercial art and design environment and as a practising artist have exhibited my own work in several venues.
I have worked on many projects and have been able to involve students on some of them, including working on projects with local galleries, round the world clipper race with the CatZero project and the BBC.
I continue to deliver art demonstrations at various functions and during my teaching, my commercial background gives me a unique insight in how to preparing students for the commercial world when teaching art and design courses.
