When teaching to draw, I re-train your brain to see in shapes- abstracting the form in front of you, to in time draw a lot more accurately. We often draw what we think we see rather than what we actually see and that is always my beggining step. I'm a big believer in you need to know the rules, before you can break them. Your imagination gets much easier to explore when you have confidence on your ability. When painting the figure, I will also teach about colours to use for all races and the myths people often believe. I will in time hopefully help you develop your own style and give you the confidence to continue practicing on your own.
I am an artist who graduated from art school in 2015 studying Technical Arts and Special Effects. When graduating, I won the drawing prize of the year, boosting my confidence in continuing to practice drawing and painting, and is now the discipline I feel most confident in. However I am also happy to explore sculpture in tutorials for beginners.
Through continuous dedicated practice I feel far more confident in the way I see things and can accurately make marks on the paper, and I'm always looking to take that further and to become the best artist I can be. I would be excited to share that knowledge and help others with their drawing or painting ability.
I have ran weekly creative workshops for a charity called 'Body and Soul', teaching mono-printing, drawing, painting, story boarding and movement in puppetry. I have also worked in a school as a 1:1 art mentor for a student completing his GCSE in 5 months and is aiming for 5 which I'm pleased with in that very short time! I also worked with other students within GCSE art, always encouraging them to perform the best of their ability and helping them understand what is required of them with annotations and artist research.
Another aspect of my work which can be an alternative approach to my tutorials, is a therapeutic one. I am a big believer in how creativity can give you space from your mind when struggling with your mental health, and I encourage young people who struggle to develop that practice as I have seen first hand the benefits. I had my first big show in October with one other artist exploring mental health and raising awareness. I look forward to hearing from you if you feel I will be the right tutor for you.

Martha is an absolutely excellent teacher. She explains everything in such an encouraging way and makes art feel accessible no matter what your level of skill in painting is! Her passion for painting really shines through and she always makes the lesson fun whilst improving your painting skills along the way. Thanks so much Martha :)
Martha is a talented artist and has hosted several art workshops for me, which have been very well received. Her approach is warm and encouraging and she has many creative suggestions and ideas. I enjoy working with Martha and hope to do so more in the future.
Martha and I worked together for 6 months. I am an experienced teacher and would highly recommend her. She is a gifted artist and loves to share her passion with her students. She has inspired students who face enormous challenges in life to move forward with confidence and find their identity within art. Book with confidence.
