I believe it is important to any aspiring musician not just learn licks but to understand what they are playing. Understanding music theory gives the musician the knowledge they need to be competent in any musical situation.
I also emphasise the importance of safe and proper bass technique that prevents potential injuries.
I am a Portsmouth based bass player with 24 years of experience.
I have studied Music and Music Technology at South Downs College & Music and Sound Technology at The University of Portsmouth. I also have had many years of experience playing in bands and recording studios. I have performed at many venues, both locally and further afield, as well as playing at local music festivals; Victorious and Wickham festivals.
I have developed my own syllabus specifically for bass players that covers both music theory and techniques specific to bass guitar. It includes etudes that help students learn the theory of what they are playing and how they can apply this knowledge in a practical & musical manner. The syllabus is adaptable to help fit your current skill level and give you confidence in finding your own sound.
For the time being I can only travel to students in Portsmouth and surrounding areas.
I you live within the Portsmouth city limits there is no extra charge for travel. Should you live in the surrounding areas, then the travel rate can be negotiated depending on your location.
