Hi there !
Want to play in a band? to discover an instrument? To be the one bringing the groove in rock, funk, jazz, and bunch of other styles?
My name is Louis and I am a bassist, envious to teach and share my passion and technique about bass guitar ! We will cover different aspects like learning the parts of the instrument, learning how to tune, how to take care of the bass, how to play on tabs, and how to play different styles through real music covers. Students can discuss with me about potential skills/music they want to learn, and I will find the adequate song to do so!
The key of any instrument is daily practice and individual support. I take care of the teaching and support, and I do all I can so that *you* want to do daily practice! If you don’t, that’s ok, I will help you and stay with you during your progression.
The course is addressed to any person willing to discover, and play bass guitar (levels : discovery, initiation, beginners, intermediate). I have been playing bass for 10 years now and have already been teaching as well.
Let’s show guitarists that bass is way more than “a 4 strings guitar” !
See you soon !
Bands and context:
I used to play in bands (I am currently looking for one in Oxford..!) mostly rock/funk/hard rock. I compose and improvise. I used to go on weekly jam sessions (or open mikes), which I am really looking forward to do!
Personal Influences :
Recently I have been listening to these bands : Vulfpeck, TWRP, Gojira. And in General : Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Alan Parsons Project, The Who, Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave, Alter Bridge, Level 42, Yes, Porcupine Tree and many others :)
I am also tutoring math, and both my parents are professors as well, so to me pedagogy is one of the key features I want to bring to my tutoring. Courses take usually one hour, settled once a week or more at the same time (but can be more flexible). The session is at the student’s home, with his/her bass and his/her amp (I just need a chair and a computer with access to internet, but I can bring my bass for special sessions).
The beginning of the sessions is made to tune, warm up, and play technical weekly exercises, it should take around 15 minutes. The rest of the time is dedicated to learn a specific song, or to train on a technical feature necessary to the current song. A song is usually covered in two or three weeks, can be longer or shorter depending on many things :)
Sometimes, after the session we exchange some good albums with the student, a good and friendly relation is really what I aim for :)
I work during the day in the Department of Plant Sciences in Oxford Uni, and live in Marston. So I plan on cycling to your place when tutoring, I just need a place to park my bike and we're all set !
