I have a love and appreciation of the English language and an awareness of grammar, which has been further improved when I have learnt (and am still learning) other languages. My own experience in French, German and Italian has given me a grip on structures and an insight into some of the problems a learner faces when acquiring a new, or improving their skills, in another language. I have spent many years in the printing profession correcting, editing, proof-reading and preparing many different pieces for my clients. I teach at all levels from beginner to advanced. Homework is a mainstay of my teaching and I encourage communication outside of the classroom on a frequent basis.
We learn by making mistakes and correcting them. My teaching is given in a light-hearted manner and I try to make it as varied as possible.
I have been teaching ESOL for nearly 22 years and I love it. I have taught classes of between 4 and 20 students in that time, as well as giving individual lessons. My preference is to teach adults as I myself started learning other languages after I had left school. As much as I would like to claim credit for my students' achievements, it is through their own hard work and efforts that they have gained qualifications.
"If you wish to study with a friend, my hourly rate changes to £36.00 per hour (£18.00 per person). Please ask for a group rate.
Travel expenses are £0.20 per mile for both directions. For example if you live 8 miles from me, I charge 8 X £0.20 = £1.60
Same for the return journey
£1.60 X 2 = £3.20.”
Initial assessment leads me to understand the awareness and knowledge of the English language my students possess. This identifies the areas for development and the course that is best suited to the individual(s).
