Belgian expatriate, Open University student offers ludic, effective, personalised French lessons in Staffordshire and around.

Methodology

Mostly when teaching foreign languages, I advocate practice. Language is a living thing - something we speak and use to describe the world. So to learn a language is to speak in order to understand its mechanism. Another essential thing when we learn is to have fun, and the lessons aim at providing students with an educative and entertaining way of learning French.
Everyone has assets and weaknesses so every lessons should be adapted to the student's needs and abilities. Depending on the level one wishes to reach, a quick assessment of the student will help build a plan to reach the goals set.
Resources are an essential part of the learning process and I will provide students with plenty of those (majority of which are accessible online for free).

Experience

Fluent bilingual, I grew up in a multi-lingual environment, both my parents being translators and teachers. Currently studying a BA (honours) Arts and Humanities (English Language and Religious Studies) at level 2 and aiming towards a Master in Education, whilst also completing another Open University degree 'Becoming an Open Educator'.
So far, I have a level 3 qualification (A-level/CESS Belgian equivalent) which was completed with Pass 1, options: Literary and Art History.
Six years working as an interpreter as part of a student job gave me some practical experience in languages. I wish to direct my career towards teaching because I think it is a wonderful thing to learn and an even greater thing to understand.

ACTIVITIES

Hobbies: walking/hiking, reading, museums, travel, baking, music, theatre, foreign language learning, swimming, arts and crafts, watching documentaries, animals …

Constantly trying to learn new things leads me to read a lot, especially on neurosciences, neuropsychology, learning processes and their alternatives (from authors like Edward de Bono, Max Black, Noam Chomsky, Daniel Kahneman, David Wiley, John Hattie, Bernard Barker, Michel Argyle …).
Committed to finding solutions to issues, pessimism is not an option, as indeed my motto is ‘to each problem there is a solution and if there is no solution then there is no problem’.

LEADERSHIP AND VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCES

• 2018: Recently subscribed at ‘Brightside.org.uk’, volunteering as a mentor in order to provide young people with the right information and support they need to succeed and reach their ambitions. By volunteering with Brightside, I would like to try to work on new challenges with young people having trouble on their educational journey, and by doing so, I hope to share my passion for learning with them so they can find their own and achieve their goals.
• 2014: Museum Night Fever, Brussels. Volunteer, ‘I read stories’. Task: animation of young children and adults, 5 evenings. From museum to museum in various shuttles throughout the night in Brussels city centre, reading stories from amateur and professional local writers. It was a fun experience in animation, and an opportunity to answer visitors’ queries about museums and events.
• 2009-16: Volunteer in a secondary school for children with special needs (11-21) - Le Trèfle, Chièvres, Belgium. Task: lunches and breaks times (supervise and assist children, first aid, sell food/drinks); in classrooms (teaching assistant – provide extra advise and help to children and teacher, ICT work); school fairs/diners – (help to move and arrange furniture, manage cash box, drinks and food services). Amazingly valuable experience which taught me a lot on both human and professional. By volunteering at ‘Le Trèfle’ I have cared for children with special educational and physical needs and experienced working as part of a team within the educational system, providing both clerical and teaching assistance.
