With a Jazz background, I am able to teach in a variety of genres such as: Pop, Soul, Hip-Hop, Funk, Rock, Folk, and Country. It is my belief that everyone has their own connection with music and learning an instrument should be about deepening that, which is why our lessons will be completely tailored to your interests and goals. As a songwriter, I feel that learning and playing songs is a powerful way to understand your favourite music while also honing your skills as a player and all-round musician, so that with any given song, it can be used as a vehicle to:
- Learn different types of chords and chord progressions
- Work on rhythm and groove playing
- Work on a variety of right-hand techniques
- Sing and play at the same time
- Find your own melodies
From the outset we will discuss your musical goals, and I will tailor my lessons accordingly. Through learning and exploring your favourite music you will be inspired to practise and improve, while also building the skills necessary to get to where you want to be as a guitarist. Our lessons will be creative, fun and engaging. Feel free to contact me if you would like to book a lesson!
Since studying Jazz Guitar at the Royal Academy of Music, I have been a professional songwriter and multi instrumentalist with many different bands, and for the past eight years, have spent most of my time singing, writing songs and playing with my own band - Ten Fé. Through the release of two albums we have built up a significant following both here and abroad, have toured extensively throughout the UK, Europe and the USA, and generated over 30 million streams on Spotify.
I also have fifteen years of experience as a session guitarist and have toured worldwide with career highlights including: headlining the Troubadour in Los Angeles, playing the Other Stage at Glastonbury, supporting Blur in Hyde Park, and playing on Jools Holland.
I am a highly experienced guitar and piano tutor and work with students of all ages and abilities ranging from beginner to professional level. As well as my own private students, I regularly teach guitar and piano at schools and performing arts colleges around London, and am currently Guitar tutor at the Latymer Music Centre. I love to teach and share my passion for music with my students, and seeing them develop their own relationship with playing and creating music.
Perfect! Ben is a brilliant guitar tutor who’s also a successful musician.
You wouldn't have guessed it because he’s humble, patient, and non-judgemental. The lessons are tailored to suit my needs and also fun and engaging. I have recently picked the guitar after a long break from my music career and already made massive progress!
Our first lesson went great. Hadar is an intuitive, and natural musician, and we will work to strengthen by working on harmony, and different guitar styles.
Ben tutored my 12 yr son for last year and I found him listening very good and giving good advise. He would encourage my son to always practice at home and would show him how the song is played. I believe Ben helped my son continue to play guitar when he lost his first teache whom he been with for 3 yrs. I would not hesitate to have Ben as guitar tutor for my son. Thank you Ben!!
For a professional tutor, Ben's musical experience is unparalleled. Not only is he educated at the highest level --having attended the Royal Academy he is part of a select few musicians worldwide to reach this technical level -- he has also achieved a great deal professionally: he's played every sought after venue a musician would want to: Hyde Park, the main stage at Glastonbury, Abbey Road etc. Then there's the albums he's released. Evidently, as a result, he's very used to adapting to a variety of different musical contexts; in the few times I've had lessons from Ben, he's offered exactly what I need in that moment, and given me tools to experiment with that have occupied me for months after. He is patient, non-judgemental and fundamentally seems to enjoy nurturing your musical development. I would presume this comes from his general love of music. His brain is a mine for exceptional songs and artists, too, which is another wonderful aspect of his lessons.
Ben is so very gifted at music. It translates into his teaching. He is reliable and kind. I strongly recommend him
Ben is an accomplished guitarist and pianist, who has had a successful musical career. He is a thoughtful and reliable person whose life has revolved around writing and teaching music. I therefore have no hesitation in recommending Ben as a superprof for enjoyable and productive lessons.
