During the first hour session, I will aim to start to get to know you a little, discover what sort of level you are at with your computing knowledge, and where you want to end up at the end of our sessions. From there I can start to build a somewhat personalised lesson structure for each student.
My teaching is geared mostly towards those that have an interest in computing and learning how to work with programming and coding to really understand what it is they are doing, focusing more on the best practices and theory in some areas, while also having a range of different practical exercises and questions that will have worked solutions available.
I aim to get everyone to a level where they can understand a solution and apply the techniques taught to other applications and problems. Creating a toolbox that can be applied to any range of projects.
I will of course be available to just answer any questions or help you work through an assigned problem, I will not offer direct support with any assessments, but will happily check over them and ensure that you have the best starting point to get it done!
For in person lessons for those in the local area, I would recommend meeting at the University of York Library for our sessions, however I suspect most lessons will be online.
I hold a bachelors degree in Electronic engineering, and am currently studying for a Masters in Computer Science, both of which have helped build a solid foundation and appreciation for a vast array of different areas of STEM, this will be reflected within my lessons as some things that are more applicable to engineering will come through and help in the process of learning different programming practices.
I also interned with a Defense company within the UK, working in an Agile environment, on a C++ to C# conversion project, and partook in an organised group project involving subjects such as image recognition and route planning.
My undergraduate dissertation was focused on the application of Genetic Algorithms within the Route Planning problem space and produced a 112 page report detailing the methodologies, structures and results from my project. Netting me a mark of 79%, and inspiring a love of nature inspired computing and artificial intelligence.
