Bharatanatyam has a clearly defined pedagogy derived from ancient Indian texts written 4000 years ago which still rings true as far as training one's body is concerned. Starting with the very basic steps, gradually building in complexity and fine tuning technique, this dance style requires patience and dedication for anyone to master and in turn teaches discipline. I hope to be able to guide my students in their journey to self-discovery via dance. In my life, Bharatanatyam has not only taught me the above, but also added another dimension to my personality. This dance style is not just for Indians, it's for everyone alike. And I can promise you that you will discover a fair amount of rich Indian culture via this dance style and perhaps help you appreciate all forms of physical training that require patience and careful practice.
I am a dancer with over 11 years of professional training in Bharatanatyam, one of the classical dance styles of India. I performed on stage for the first time at the age of 5 and ever since then participated in various shows each year. I completed my Arangetram, graduation equivalent in Bharatanatyam under Guru Shumita Mahajan in 2014 and have continued to perform till date. I currently study medicine at St George's.
