Engaging a tutor is not always an easy or straightforward decision. Schools work hard to ensure that they help students as much as possible. However, there are particular times - the run-up to GCSE exams for example - when a good tutor can prove invaluable, covering in 1 hour what a class teacher may take several lessons to achieve.
I offer friendly personal tuition in mathematics to children and adults to GCSE level. I have extensive experience of working with children of High School age, as well as adults wishing to gain qualifications in maths.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
Because I am a specialist, I teach mathematics only.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a BSc Degree in Maths as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) also in Maths.
- How much do you charge?
I charge a flat rate fee of £30 for a 1 hour session of maths tuition. There are no other costs for my travel, books, revision guides or practice exam papers. And if you want to share the cost of the session with another student - most usually a friend of your child's - there is no additional fee.
Each session is booked on a needs only basis - with no minimum number of sessions and no minimum frequency of sessions. This means that you decide how much help is needed.
- Where do you teach?
All tuition takes place in the convenience and security of your own home.
I cover the central Norfolk triangle of Norwich, Swaffham and Fakenham including Litcham, Reepham and Dereham.
- When are you available?
Because I am a working teacher I am able to offer personal tuition outside of normal school hours only.
Times are available Mon - Thurs late afternoon and evenings, and week-end mornings. I regret that appointments cancelled giving less than 48 hours notice will incur a £10 charge.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
High School students through to adults.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I don't have a magic wand but if you want to do well in maths, and are prepared to put in the effort, then I can help you achieve the GCSE grade that you would like. Like everything else in life, when you can see how to do something then it's easy. It's my job to help you see how to do it!
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been a maths teacher for just over 20 years - for most of these as Head of Department. I have also many years experience of working for the UK's main GCSE examining board as a GCSE marker.
I have also tutored many young people - mostly to GCSE.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
By choosing a qualified and working maths teacher as a tutor you ensure that you have someone registered with the General Teaching Council of England (GTCE) and who has also passed enhanced Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) checks.
• BSc Mathematics
• Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)
• Enhanced CRB Clearance
