PERSONAL STATEMENT
I am a recent biochemistry graduate of the University of St. Andrews, and am looking for exciting opportunities in a new sector. During my time studying biochemistry and working as a Specialist Recruitment Consultant, I have developed and perfected numerous skills that make me the ideal candidate for this position. These skills include: data analysis and interpretation, managing multiple tasks/ projects at once, and communicating and selling ideas clearly and concisely. Furthermore, I am a proven self-starter, having taught myself how to code HTML/ CSS and how to use various Adobe applications to advance my photography interests. It is for these reasons, and my success in previous related roles, that I know I am perfect for this job and that I will be a great addition to your team.

EDUCATION
09/2013 – 06/2017 Biochemistry BSc (Hons) – upper second class (2:1)
The University of St. Andrews
Relevant Honours modules:
• Statistical and Quantitative Skills for Biologists (2:1): weekly workshops taught us how to use Rstudio, and relevant code, to execute advanced statistical analysis of large data sets.
• Marine and Environmental Biotechnology (2:1): a large portion of the grade came from a Dragon’s Den style pitch, where we had to invent and sell a novel product with its fundamentals in biotechnology.
• Structure-Based Drug Discovery (2:1): the majority of the grade stemmed from a series of three presentations, we gave as a group, from the perspective of a pharmaceuticals company trying to convince venture capitalists to invest in our company, based off the superiority of our now drug. This drastically improved my communication and sales ability.

Final year project/Dissertation:
• I investigated the structure-function relationship of a protein that is heavily implicated in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease, via a series of site-directed mutagenesis experiments.
• This project required an immense amount of information gathering and filtering, work prioritisation, and resilience.

Notable Achievements:
• Awarded a place on the Dean’s List for Academic Excellence for the 2013-2014 academic year

09/2011 – 06/2013 A Level: Physics (A*), Chemistry (A*), Biology (A)
As Level: Maths (A), English Language (B)
Blue Coat Sixth Form, Oldham

TECHNICAL SKILLS
Throughout my studies, work experience, and free time, I have gained experience in, and become adept at:
• HTML/ CSS (self-taught)
• WordPress (self-taught): designed, created and edited websites for a WHO-affiliated study, and my personal photography portfolio
• Photoshop/ Lightroom (self-taught)
• R/ Rstudio: for data analysis, which was an integral part of my degree
• Microsoft Office: Excel, PowerPoint, Word
• Canva (self-taught): creating/ editing graphics for social media platform

WORK EXPERIENCE
01/2018 – present Capstone Property Recruitment, Specialist Recruitment Consultant, Manchester

I joined Capstone Property Recruitment in their newly formed Manchester office, to recruit Construction Cost and Project Managers into top-tier Construction Consultancies. My day-to-day activities included: speaking to potential candidates over the phone and selling them on the role, meeting with high-profile clients to establish good business relationships, and inputting data into the company database.

During my time here, I developed good business acumen, great communication skills and an ability to speak intelligently with clients. Unfortunately, due to an unforeseen change in circumstances, my role required me to relocate to London, which is something I am not able to do at this time so I have had to part ways with Capstone.

09/2016 – 09/2017 HBSC (WHO-affiliated) Multinational Study, Intern, St. Andrews

The HBSC (Health Behaviour in School-aged Children) multinational study follows adolescents, between 11-15 years of age, and correlates their well being with their social environments and health behaviours. This data can be used to inform policy making, and development protocol.

During my time as an intern I had a wide range of responsibilities, including data analysis and summarisation of the study’s Twitter Analytics data to allow informed decisions about what to post and when, designing and developing the study’s website using WordPress, and creating graphics for Twitter that made the study’s data visually accessible.

• During my time working at HBSC, I was consistently praised for my attention to detail, and level of perfectionism.
• The study has 48 member countries and regions, and my work directly affected the teams in all 48 countries/ regions. This required a high level of responsibility and professionalism from the onset
• This position was a significant time commitment, when considering the amount of work required for my university modules, however it was very rewarding.

2016 – 2017 David Russell Apartments, Housekeeping, St. Andrews

During the summers of 2016 and 2017, I worked as a housekeeper to raise money for my backpacking trip that I took after graduating from university. In addition to cleaning rooms and tending to guests needs, I was often required to lead, and supervise, a team of cleaners to reach tight deadlines.

05/2015 – 08/2016 Multiple Pubs and Bars, Bar Tender, Manchester/ St. Andrews
During the summers of 2015 and 2016, I worked as a bartender in multiple pubs and bars to raise money for my backpacking trip that I took after graduating from university.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES/ INTERESTS
• I am passionate about photography, after being a hobbyist for about a year I have been published in the St. Art Magazine, and I have curated online portfolios on both WordPress and Instagram.
• Since graduating university I have tried to increase my technical skills, to make myself more employable. Therefore, in my spare time, I have taught myself how to use Adobe applications and how to code HTML/ CSS.
• During my final two years of high school, and throughout my time at sixth form, I was my co-captain of my school’s rugby team
• When I moved to university, I became an active member of the University of St. Andrews Rugby Union club. I attended all the training sessions, matches, and social events, which was a big time commitment.
• I also have a great interest in music. I have studied music my whole life, both privately and in school, and am Grade 6 certified, by ABRSM, in classical guitar
