I like to be organised and plan my lessons in advance, these sessions are yours so it's up to you what we study but you will benefit most from telling me what you struggle with so I can prepare a session which will help you improve.
If you are preparing for an exam or are in school, tell me which exam board you are using or what topics you are covering, this will mean I can access an exam specification for you meaning we learn effectively and efficiently, missing out unnecessary information which will not benefit your exam preparation, unless you want a much broader picture in which case we'd take a different lesson structure.
I am a very patient person and will never get frustrated or annoyed if you cannot grasp a concept immediately. The whole idea of one to one tuition is that it's your time and you take as much time as you need to understand a topic.
We will go through work methodically and calmly, and if you forewarn me about what you want to study then I can begin our sessions with a check list of learning objectives.
I begin my lessons with new students by preparing for them a set of questions, I then see how the student performs when tasked with these questions know what difficulty we need to start the lesson at. If a student chooses, I leave them with 5 questions either with work I plan on covering in the next session or work that we covered in a previous session. This allows for overlap of topics and keeps information fresh rather than left exclusively in lessons.
I always ask students to be honest with me if they don't understand an explanation or of course they feel they do understand something and want to move the lesson on. I cannot stress enough how this is your time and it is completely up to you how we tailor your lesson.
I am 21 years old and study at The University of Glasgow, a top U.K. University in The Times University Rankings. I have been teaching formally for just over a year and informally for approximately three years. I have experience teaching Biology and Chemistry from GCSE to Alevel as well as teaching GCSE Maths. I have found a lot of students respond very well to someone only a few years ahead of them academically as they do not feel as intimidated as they might do by their school teachers due to lessons having a more informal style to normal lessons.
I didn't have the easiest journey to University as I missed a lot of my first year due to illness, including my exams, this meant that I had to teach myself any work I had missed alongside my second year of A levels. I also taught myself nearly the complete A level maths syllabus. This experience gives me a good knowledge of how students learn best as I tried many different methods - we will find one which suits you.
I charge £5 if you require lessons outside of the West End of Glasgow, otherwise I do not charge for my travel. I review my rates at the start of each academic term, I do not have plans to change them however I do this so that there are no unexpected price rises as it will only occur at these times.
