In an education system that just teaches to tests, the most important thing is the students, and their needs are being ignored. That's why my teaching philosophy is progressive. I centre the learning around students, so they are in control of their own progress and enjoyment.
I'm flexible with lesson structure. My first steps are asking students about their preferred methods of learning, what resources work best for them, and which don't. I then tailor lessons based on their answers and transform a lesson and make a bespoke teaching session designed to make them comfortable, help them learn best and enjoy themselves, so they can achieve their potential.
Working closely with my own teachers in school and with people at university has opened my eyes to a variety of different teaching techniques and resources to help make learning tailored and more interesting, and to make learning more independent, I can use these tools to plan lessons together with my students, to ensure that they are happy with every session.
I'll monitor student progress in an individual session and throughout a series of sessions, through communicating with the students and asking them if they feel they've learned enough, if they feel they've gained confidence, and if they enjoyed the session. I will also provide quizzes in a similar format to their exam to test their knowledge at the end of a session, and thoroughly review that with them to learn from mistakes and make progress.
I'm patient with students and I can empathise with them - still being in the education system means I have first hand and recent experience of what is being asked of them, and how they can achieve that successfully.
Whilst I have not privately tutored, I have teaching experience. During my own education, I assisted with the teaching multiple classes of 25-30 secondary school students, in both science and humanities subjects, over two years.
Within my capacity as a volunteer teaching assistant, I was able to encourage students to flourish. In the classes I worked more closely with, I was able to see students gradually progress in both the quality of their marked work, and in their enjoyment, interest and comfortability with the subject, or with schoolwork itself. With other students, the change could happen within the hour lesson. Students with problems or concerns at the start of the lesson would be confident and proficient in what they were doing by the end.
I have experience with students of different abilities and was able to provide one-to-one assistance with those who struggled more, which enabled them to do the work, complete the lesson objective and gain the same value from the lesson as every other student had.
Since I have no formal tutoring experience yet, my lessons cost less than the average hourly price for the subject and area and buying multiple lessons means you can get discounts of 20% to 30%! I've also included a free first lesson so you can be sure that the quality of my lessons is definitely up to standard!
I'm a young university student, looking to pursue a career in teaching, and wanting to give back. I study Biochemistry because I have both a scientific interest, fascination and curiosity, and a belief that knowledge in my subject has the power to help people.
My Biology lessons range in level from primary school until A-Levels, preparing students to sit their exams at any stage during their education. The content of the individual lessons includes a variety of resources and approaches that suit both the format of the exam and the preferences of each and every student. I cover all disciplines within the field of Biology, so students can pick and choose with topics they want to cover and focus on.
