-During the first lesson I will assess strengths and weaknesses and structure following lessons accordingly.
-Most of my lessons will start with an optional 5 minute ‘Warm-up’. The purpose of this is to establish a mathematical mindset.
-If the student has specific questions they’d like to go through I’d then be happy to take them through a step by step on how to answer the question.
-If the student has subject areas they would like to focus on they should let me know prior to the lesson so I can prepare some questions. Generally, questions I prepare will be ‘scaffolded’ with prompts until the student gains enough confidence to use their own mental strategies to complete questions of that style.
-A range of sources and textbooks will be used unless the student would like to focus on a particular programme i.e. AQA, Edexcel etc.
-Concepts will be explained by relating them to the real world as much as possible so that the context/purpose of the questions are obvious rather than some arbitrary numbers on a page!
I’m currently undertaking a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, which involves the study of the structure, properties and behaviour of all materials. The subject cohesively ties together elements of physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics, which affords me the opportunity to study all of my favourite subjects whilst giving me the tools to make a real difference in industry and research. I’m interested in a future in research and development that utilises both my scientific and creative background. I am innovative, logical, a quick learner and am keen to develop materials that make the technologies we use in our everyday lives better.
My goal is to motivate and encourage younger students and ultimately improve your grades through clearly structured and tailored lessons based on your learning style, whether visual, logical or more creative.
Mariam was a fantastic tutor for my recent physics exams in summer, and I managed to pass all of them with 2:1's and above! I usually struggle with revision and tried Mariam after a recommendation from a friend and she was more than helpful. She went through everything and made the information easier to retain and digest, plus she was very flexible with my busy schedule for sessions. Would highly recommend if you are nervous about getting a tutor, or if you just need a study buddy! Thank you so much Mariam!
Mariam is an enthusiastic and confident person, she is informative and knowledgeable when it comes to her specialist subject, and she takes time to be both supportive and conscientious. I would recommend her as a trustworthy tutor due to her calm approach and her personable attitude which she applies in both a learning environment and day to day life!
Mariam is an excellent tutor who explains things clearly, patiently and ensures that all her students have a full understanding of the topic. I highly recommend Mariam as she is not only reliable but also displays brilliant teaching methods and is very accommodating.
