I trained at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and have acted professionally for 15 years, including Phoebe in 'As You Like It' at the National Theatre, the Young Vic, Shakespeare's Globe, and on BBC's 'Luther' and E4's 'Misfits'. Most recently I appeared in the stage debut of Mike Bartlett's 'Not Talking' at the Arcola Theatre.
I believe acting at its best is relaxed, playful and intuitive, but only when underpinned by rigorous and solid work. Auditions can be daunting. It is tempting to plot your every move and breath, but very often when it comes to the audition you will then find yourself rigid, stale, and unable to respond intuitively to direction. Using simple techniques, I can help you engage your imagination and find freedom in auditions.
I sit on the panel for Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, which has given me a unique insight into the process of applying to drama school. Selecting the right material is key, and together we can find the pieces that best showcase you as an actor. We will work to make you feel comfortable and prepared but also able to play and respond to direction on the day.
I can also help prepare you for professional auditions, whether it be for theatre, TV, film or voice over. My approach is the same; I will help you make bold and exciting choices in both material and interpretation, while ensuring that you are not 'stuck' but always in the moment.
My sessions are actor-led. I have experience working with all ages and abilities and tailor my work to suit you. I have a large space in which we can work, but am also happy to travel to you.
I coach students for both drama school and professional auditions, help source material for auditions/showcase, prepare for LAMDA/Trinity exams, or simply allow students to keep their acting muscle engaged by working through our own carefully tailored programme. I've had many successful drama school applicants and have also helped students obtain professional work across theatre, television and film.
I have taught students of all ages and experience both the LAMDA and Trinity syllabus. The exams can supplement an active drama student's life, or if a pupil is new to drama, it can be a brilliant starting point in accessing acting and performance. I have worked with students with no prior experience of drama and created a tailor-made syllabus, introducing them to basic performance skills and techniques and building on this foundation as we progressed through the grades. I have also coached more experienced performers looking to develop their basic skills through the higher grades.

She’s so intelligent and intuitive, and she’s really taken the time to break down my speeches with me so that I understand my characters totally. I couldn’t recommend more!!" - Olivia, drama school applicant

Perfect! Gemma helped me to feel so much more confident with my audition pieces for drama school entry, giving advice and working through different exercises with me which really brought my speeches to life. She is a fantastic tutor who I'd recommend to anyone applying for drama school wanting both professional and friendly guidance.
Gemma is an intelligent and instinctive actor with an outstanding grasp of both modern and classical text.
Having worked with her and seen her on stage many times, I can’t recommend her highly enough; any student would be lucky to learn from her.
I have been having weekly classes with a Gemma in preparation for drama school auditions. I have never felt more relaxed and myself going into an audition room. I have a newfound confidence in my monologues and my ability to be playful in the room
I trained with Gemma for three years at drama school and so have witnessed her talent, professionalism and commitment in all areas. We have worked together on many auditions and self-tapes, and it's always been really helpful and made me much more confident. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for audition prep or acting coaching in general.
