Methodology

I am a very outgoing individual and believe that relating to the student and having a good relationship with the student is key to learning. I am only 20 years old so usually find this works effectively with my students.

I graduated from Harrow School in 2015 and now study Economics at Bristol University. I am a highly experieced tutor as I have been tutoring for the last 4 years, this means I am familiar with the new GCSE/iGCSE specifications.

Employment history

Kepler Cheuvreux, City of London 01/06/13-01/07/13
(Equity brokers)
I was enthralled to work with an international team of experts within the City of London, in July 2013, watching the resignation of the Portuguese finance minister and the resulting tsunami wave of crashing Lisbon listed stocks by 5.2%. This forced shareholders into a negative wealth effect resulting in a catastrophic fall in business confidence. At the time, I was in the midst of a frantic equities team trying to cover their put/call positions. The chain of cascading events that were a direct consequence of this political action captivated me.
Sales Assistant, Daniels’ of Windsor, Windsor 10/09/16 – 10/12/16
I engaged in a part-time job in the menswear department of ‘Daniels of Windsor’, a large department store based in Windsor. This has taught me an array of different skills such as dealing tactfully with consumers, working under pressure and as part of a busy team, using initiative, commercial awareness, use of IT and customer service, which I believe I wouldn’t have otherwise learnt in a classroom.
Commodity Trading Research Analyst, London 15/03/17 - 29/03/17

I was invited to observe negotiations for an oil deal between an Arab Sheikh (the seller), whose father was the oil and gas minister of his country, and a buying delegation that included a Malaysian dignitary and the grandson of an iconic Egyptian president. The buyer wanted various oil products for strategic business and political reasons and the seller wanted to secure business and political connections in new markets. It was a fascinating experience watching the two parties gaining trust through use of their business and political stories before finally moving onto the business of discussing the opportunity.

Positions of Responsibility (or extra-curricular)

Deputy Head of Boarding House, Harrow School 01/09/14-01/07/15

This entailed having to manage large groups of boys of varying ages. It also included liaising with peers in a constructive manner, which at times was a difficult task, however I am a firm believer in the importance of communication and in valuing all opinions. I am always open-minded and I can look to compromise to maintain a balance across a range of ideas. However, I do also understand that not all ideas and suggestions are appropriate and would like to advocate this in a diplomatic and mature way.
Harrow Pigou (Economics) Committee, Harrow School 01/09/14 – 01/07/15
Named after the famous economist at Harrow, I was awarded a place on the Pigou Committee; a group of leading Economists in the school. The committee’s aims were to promote Economics within the school and raise awareness of the importance of economic impacts. I was particularly involved in tutoring younger economics students in order to ameliorate their understanding of the subject. Using my LinkedIn social media account, I approached UK and international industry leaders and successfully enlisted their commitment to talk about Economics at the Pigou Economics Society, including Dr Ha Joong-Chang, author of ’23 Things They Don’t Tell You About Capitalism’.

Future Leaders Programme, City of London 06/07/15 - 10/07/15

I was selected via a rigorous application process to partake in the Close Brothers Future Leaders Programme.
I was highly commended for the conception of a business idea in which I pitched to 300 people. I took part in Q+As with young entrepreneurs, business professors and the banks CEO and CIO. I learned about disruptive innovation, digital entrepreneurship and social enterprise. Other topics included SWOT analysis, leadership styles and personality types.

University of Bristol Accomodation Treasurer 18/09/16 – 18/06/17

I was awarded with the role of University Accommodation Treasurer during my first year at the University of Bristol. This involved overseeing and tracking inflows and outflows of money for events that would be planned. This put the theoretical concepts that I was learning to use in a real world application, for example, Statements of Financial Position and Cash Income Statements. Not only was this good practice but this also consolidated my knowledge and understanding of the theory.

Awards or Skills or Extra Qualifications

Extra Curricular Activities:

Singing: I have been singing in both primary and senior school choirs for eight years to both foreign dignitaries visiting Windsor Castle and to domestic audiences.
Drama: I have also been involved in house and school plays, achieving a distinction in the grade 3 London Academy of Music and Drama (LAMDA) exam.
Sports: I love playing football and am a Newcastle United supporter. I enjoy playing cricket, having represented my schools in both sports for many years. I am an accomplished kick boxer and have won local competitions. I also captained the School Croquet Team and have been involved in organizing the National Schools Croquet Competition.
Charity: I regularly participate in the schools annual 10-mile marathon for numerous charities. In November 2014 I broke through my comfort zone by completing a 20-mile run and raised over £1000 for charity. These leisurely activities have over time, empowered me with the self-confidence to operate on a stage both individually and in a team to communicate with a diverse audience.
Volunteering: At Harrow I took part in a year long volunteering scheme which consisted of visiting care homes for the elderly in order to serve refreshments and engage in conversation. I also took part in trips to local schools within the Harrow borough, helping younger students read and playing football with them at break-times, which I found to be a gratifying experience.
