The teaching methodology will vary slightly depending on the student's existing Chinese language ability – from absolute beginners to intermediate and advanced level. However, it will usually cover 1-2 topics each lesson, beginning with new topic-specific vocabulary, its pronunciation and followed by the vocabulary in practice. This will ensure that the student is developing reading, spoken and written language abilities.
Despite the above structure, I am quite flexible and if the student would like to focus on practising or improving, for example, their oral skills, I am incredibly happy to place more emphasis on oral interactions. At the end of the day, I tailor my lessons to each student and what they would personally like to achieve. My aim is none other than the student enjoying the lesson and feeling a sense of achievement after each class!
In addition, if the student is interested, I will also be excited to share some Chinese cultural knowledge and awareness.
I am a recent law graduate from the University of Warwick and am currently studying the LPC in London. I have always had a great interest in languages, with Cantonese being my mother-tongue and fluency in Mandarin and an A-level in German. I have taught Mandarin and Cantonese Chinese to students in the past and have also undertaken an intense three-week Chinese language course in Beijing during the summer 2019.
In the era of rapid globalisation where Chinese language skills are becoming ever more sought after, whether it is the genuine interest in learning the language or the desire to stand out in your circle of competitors in the employment world, I am excited to help interested students in developing Chinese language abilities that will place them in good stead for whatever future plans they have in mind.
