The most important thing to help a student to learn is their motivation. A new concept isn't just important because it lies on the syllabus, relating something to real life or something the student is interested in can help them form stronger connections in their brain through semantics. Once a concept is learnt it's important to test it conventionally and push the boundaries of their understanding in order to be prepared for anything that might come up!
