When working with children I like to focus on creating a fun and supportive environment with a sense of mutual respect for one another. It is extremely important to me that my students feel heard and listened to while maintaining clear expectations of a positive attitude and strong work ethic. Music and languages are about being compassionate, enthusiastic and having good communication; all of which I believe are key qualities to success in the classroom and as a musician!
I base my classes on the art of Bel Canto singing. It is extremely important that my students understand the proper anatomy or structure of their instruments. In lessons, we will study vocal structure and support, vocal technique and crucial musicianship skills such as score reading and sight singing.
Hello! My name is Madeleine and I am a professional opera singer and musician. I am energetic, outgoing, hard-working and have always loved teaching and taking care of others. I was born and raised on Vancouver Island, British Colombia by bilingual parents, speaking French and English at home. I attended French Immersion schooling from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and graduated with a double-dogwood degree with honours. I also have a strong working knowledge and understanding of Italian and German from my language courses at university and an exchange semester in Milan, Italy.
I graduated from McGill University with a degree in Classical Vocal Performance, where I spent my years studying with world renowned singers; Tenor Stefano Algieri and Soprano Aline Kutan. Not only did my years in Montreal give me an in-depth understanding of the theory, history and musicianship of Classical music and Opera but also gave me the opportunity to rule the stage, playing rules such as the Countess in Mozart's Nozze di Figaro, Elettra from Mozart's opera Idomeneo, Giunone from Cavalli's Calisto , and Sister Martha in McGill's production of Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmelites.
As a young child, I always had a huge interest in music. At the age of five I began taking classical piano lessons in my home town. By 10 years old, my passion for music had expanded and I joined the Nanaimo Youth Choir, a professional childrens' choir that devoted themselves to performing, competing and touring around the country. When I turned 13, I began taking voice lessons as a solo artist and began working to achieve my dream of becoming a professional Opera singer.
As a young professional, I spent many years studying with Canadian Soprano Heather Thomson-Price at the University of British Columbia. There, I frequently worked along side Soprano Simone Osborne and Tenor Perry Price, all of whom have had successful careers with the Metropolitan Opera, the Canadian Opera Company and many others throughout the United States and Europe.
In May of 2018, I moved to London, England and began working at Boden's Performing Arts Academy teaching singing and vocal technique in a classroom environment to students ranging from 5 years old to A-level and college students. I also give private singing and piano lessons to students all over the city.

Madeleine has studied music extensively throughout high school and her undergraduate studies. She is very knowledgeable in the subject and beyond that is a natural teacher. I have gone to school with Madeleine and have known her almost my entire life. I have seen her teach in many informal settings and know that she is competent and clear when giving instructions. She is also an energetic, engaging person who knows how to make her lessons productive and interesting. She is able to form strong relationships with her students and identify where they need the most help and support. I would recommend Madeleine to anyone looking to gain or improve upon valuable music reading skills!
Madeleine is really supportive and encouraging. She is knowledgeable about music and her singing and has an approachable manner. Her patience and support is helpful for someone like me who has never had much experience with music. Additionally, as someone completely new to the recognising and reading music, I could barely get anything right. Now I can control my diaphragm a lot better and make myself spot my own mistakes and I was gradually reading some music after just a few sessions. I would like to highly recommend Madeleine to any new singer wanna be or even just for anyone wishing to learn/improve the art of playing the piano because with her patience, support and incredibly amazing personality you will never feel embarrassed. I was extremely conscious about singing in front of people and had quite a bit of stage fright but with Madeleine it really felt like singing to my own family. She makes every lesson a challenge but you will never feel the weight of the work. I also believe experienced musicians will benefit from her wide knowledge and experience. You will definitely not regret it.
Lastly I’d say that I'm really glad I found her!!
Madeleine is a gifted and dedicated musician and teacher. Having worked with her for four years, I know she has an excellent work ethic and is extremely dedicated to her students. I would highly recommend her as a music tutor!
