My classes are based around discussion and question-asking as well as short reading and writing exercises. I appreciate that reading and writing can be dull for some people and therefore aim to conduct the majority of the class on terms that the tutees are must comfortable with. For example, if the tutee enjoys discussion best, learning will largely be based around discussion. By making the tutee feel comfortable and confident it is easier to then work on the aspects of history which they find more difficult.
I am a History student at Cardiff University. I achieved A* at A-Level and supervised study groups with my classmates and helped them achieve better results. The people who participated in these groups say that they achived much higher grades as a consequence of these sessions. I have regularly volunteered as a tutor throughout my academic life. As a high-performing athlete I understand the difficulties of balancing academics and extra-curricuars and can offer good advice on time management.
Jan tutored me in year 13 for my A - level history. He was great as he had a created a good balance of content and exam preparation, whilst somehow still making it exciting. If he hadn't of tutored me I feel like I would not have achieved what I did. Which may have left me not getting into the university I wanted to. Thanks Jan.
I understand history in a new way because of Jan. He is very knowledgeable but his true talent lies in his ability to make difficult subjects seem simple. With his help, I achieved full marks in the paper I was working towards - I would highly recommend.
