- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I predominately teach via Skype because most of my students are familiar with it and, usually, already have access to it. Skype allows us to share screens and to write messages and this, along with emailing materials and working from text books, has always been a successful method for students to improve their English.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I understand how stressful it is for students who need to pass the IELTS test and, in particular, for those students who needs to pass with a score of 7 or above for the GMC. It IS achievable and learning the strategies and practising will help you. Learning English and achieving the scores you need will benefit your future career - keep persevering, don't give up.
- What kind of experience do you have?
Many years ago I taught undergraduate and postgraduate students a variety of business related subjects. Many of my students were from overseas and this is where I became aware of the specific problems they faced studying for a degree in a second language. They had to work twice as hard as the UK students and I admired them for their perseverance.
This led me to focus on teaching English as a Foreign Language and I have now been teaching for approximately 20 years.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
- Where and with whom did you train?
CELTA - Warwickshire College
Masters in Education and Industry - University of Warwick.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I teach a wide range of students who all have different needs and having private lessons means I can focus on the specific needs of each student and tailor my lesson to suit them. We work at a pace that suits the student so they can spend longer on language areas where they need more help and spend less time on those areas where they are more confident.
I work with a number of clients who need to have documents proofread and edited. These can include academic papers for publication, dissertation/thesis, essays, letters and CVs.

As an adult learner doing IELTS I contacted Carol, who quickly responded and set up a lesson. Carol is a great teacher, having sent over some 'homework' for me to do, within an hours lesson she was able to immediately highlight problematic areas in my writing.
Carol is extremely friendly and helpful from the first meeting, making me feel at ease instantaneously. I would recommend Carol for anyone who needs tutorial support with English language.
