I am a friendly, experienced and motivated musician who is keen to teach people of all ages and levels.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach the Cello and Violin.
Lessons are tailor made to suit each student's aspirations and will often cover a wide range of subjects related to playing a stringed instrument. E.g. General musicianship/theory, orchestral advice, technique, performance preparation, repertoire, exams etc... I often play duets with my students in lessons to teach the chamber music basics and also for enjoyment.
Playing and communicating with other people in music is what it's all about!
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I completed my Undergraduate degree at Trinity College of Music and a Master of Arts at the Royal Academy of Music both in cello performance.
I also have Grade 8 Distinction on the Violin and Grade 5 on the Piano.
- How much do you charge?
£30 per hour.
£20 per half hour.
I offer a free consultation lesson for anyone interested in learning with me - this will give us the chance to discuss your musical ambitions (however big or small) and give you an insight into my teaching style.
Note that after this lesson there is no obligation to continue learning with me! It is very important to find a teacher who is right for you.
- Where do you teach?
I am based in Rickmansworth but happy to travel anywhere in London Zones 1-3. (Exceptions possible on request)
- When are you available?
My schedule is constantly changing so lessons are often booked on a week by week basis. However, it is quite likely that I will be able to offer a regular lesson time.
At present I have regular cello students every Thursday evening in the NW1 area and violin/cello students in the Watford area on Saturday mornings.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I have experience teaching primary aged children and adult amateurs - but would be happy teaching any age and any level from absolute beginner to advanced.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I am happy to teach via Skype if requested.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have a large amount of experience playing the cello at the highest level in orchestras, chamber ensembles, solo performances and recording studios. Please see my website for more detailed information and recent performances!
Regarding teaching, I am currently a string faculty member of Wandsworth Schools Music, with whom I have led the 'Wider Opportunites' scheme in primary schools and tutored both violin and cello for their Saturday Music Centres in West Hill and Tooting.
Since July 2009 I have held the 'Strings Assistant' position with 'The Intermediate Learning Orchestra' in Baker Street where I advise the adult amateur string section and conduct sectional rehearsals.
I have also taken part in regular teacher training with Wandsworth and chose the creative education pathway (with placements in schools) as part of my MA course at the Royal Academy of Music.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
