Charlotte - Central Manchester - Clarinet

Methodology

I am a young and enthusiatic music teacher based in Manchester. I specialise in Bassoon and Clarinet tuition and teach a wide range of people and abilities every week. I have 100% pass rate for my pupils exams - ABRSM and Trinity.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach Bassoon and Clarinet privately across Greater Manchester. I am the bassoonist specialist for Bolton Music Service currently engaged in a bassoon startup programme for new beginners. I have over 5 years experience teaching both bassoon and clarinet as well as some piano and other woodwind experience. I have a 100% pass rate with my pupils exams from Grade 1 - Grade 8. I am confident and happy using both ABRSM and Trinity exam boards, this is down to pupils personal preference.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

In 2015 I graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music with a Distinction in Masters performance course on Bassoon. I obtained my undergraduate BMus (HONS) degree from Birmingham Conservatoire. I also hold DipABRSM Bassoon Performance.

- How much do you charge?

I charge £28 per hour and £14 per half hour lesson. I may have to charge a small fee to cover travel costs depending on distance/ time to travel.

- Where do you teach?

I teach at my students homes rather than my own home (it is not currently set up with s tutoring space). On a weekly basis I teach in Manchester, Bolton, Sale and Wilmslow. I travel by car to lessons.

- When are you available?

I have availability Monday - Friday so please do enquire for possible time slots. I also teach during school holidays if the pupil wishes. I teach both evenings and during the day.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I teach all ages and abilities. Whether you're looking to progress through grades, simply learn for pleasure or are an advanced pupil preparing for university / diplomas. I am comfortable teaching any scenario and currently teach pupils who are beginner - post grade 8.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I have prepared students for exams from grade 1 - grade 8 and have 100% pass rate for all my pupils. I also teach from absolute beginners and have sucess at helping students to progress quickly and with excellent technique.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

I hope that I have answered some of your questions and I look forward to hearing from you. I am always happy to hear from new pupils no matter age or ability. All my lessons are prepared for each pupils needs and I'm be more than happy to discuss this prior to our first lesson.

Background

- What kind of experience do you have?

Since graduating from my undergraduate degree in 2013 I have been working as a bassoon tutor and freelance bassoonist. I teach a wide range of pupils from young beginner bassoonists to accomplished post grade 8 students to adult learners. My teaching week is made up of numerous private pupils and tutoring with Bolton Music Service. I am currently running a programme in Bolton to encourage new bassoon pupils and to inspire the next generation of bassoonists. I have successfully helped one of my young bassoonists to gain a place at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music in 2017. I am passionate about the bassoon and feel it is often an overlooked instrument so I am always looking for new ways to raise awareness of this fantastic instrument.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

I have an up-to-date DBS certificate as well as numerous certificates in safeguarding and child safety.

- Where and with whom did you train?

From 2013-2015 I trained at the Royal Northern College of Music with Gretha Tuls (Halle Orchestra) and Graham Salvage (ex Halle Orchestra). Prior to the RNCM I trained at Birmingham Conservatoire with John Orford (London Sinfonietta), Sarah Burnett (Britten Sinfonia) and the late Nicholas Hunka (London Symphony Orchestra).

- Tell me about some of your current students.

I teach a wide range of people - ages and abilities. Some examples include:
- teenage bassoonist who achieved Dinstinction Grade 5 and successfully auditioned for a place at Junior RNCM (July 2017)
- adult clarinet beginner looking to play for fun
- adult bassoon who played as a child. Over the last 2 years of lesrning with me she has achieved Distinction in Grade 4, 5 and 6 ABRSM and is now preparing for grade 7 (Sept 2017)
- beginner child bassoonist who is preparing for grade 4 after 2 years of learning (Sept 2017)
- adult bassoonist playing as a new hobbie during retirement (Sept 2017)
