About the lesson
Maths can be challenging, but also fun.
My methodology is to understand the student first, their targets and motivations. Building a relationship with the student is paramount to success. This allows me to tailor a learning program for each student to optimise their individual strengths. I have come to understand that most students that think they are “bad” at maths generally just lack the passion because they have not found the best learning environment to build their confidence.
I endeavour to teach topics from the ground up unless told to do otherwise by the student. I love question practice as I believe the more questions you do, the less likely you are to find something that surprises you. Ultimately, I don’t want my students to learn how to do a question but understand the answering process, so they don’t get stuck in an exam environment.
My focus is exam preparation and I derive joy in helping the student exceed their predicted grade.
I have been providing lessons to GCSE and A-level students over the last four years. I have also had a couple of students doing the International Baccalaureate.
I like to see myself as a GCSE specialist and have picked up a number of “last minute” students which were on the verge of failing their exams, helping them to pass and continue their education at higher levels.
I also have a number of students that I start working with from year 10 which allows us enough time to build. I seek to challenge my students and seeing them raise to the challenge and grow is always a joy.
