I base a lot of my teaching around doing examples to increase a students confidence. Physical sciences require students to understand content and be able to apply it logically. By guiding students through problems they will develop a methodical approach, which will guide them when attempting an unknown exercise. If a student is struggling with a particular area, it will form the warm up exercise at the beginning of each session until they have mastered it. This can seem very laborious and repetitive, but it works!
I also like to use analogies and memory tricks for learning. Chemistry in particular requires students to memorise a lot of concepts before they can apply them, so having easy methods to do this is very helpful.
Finally I am an extremely visual and methodical learner myself, so I encourage students to think of efficient ways to present information in their notes to make learning it even easier.
I am a Chemistry student at Durham University studying for my Masters. I have tutored A-level chemistry before and am proud to say I boosted my student's mark by a grade. I used to teach Sunday school classes so I am used to planning lessons, and I have volunteered teaching English as a foreign language so I am able to come up with creative ways to approach a topic for students who are struggling.

Work Experience:
Houseparent / More Than English Summer School: July-August 2018 and 2019
I began this job as an assistant houseparent in 2018, and in 2019 I was asked to return and was promoted to senior houseparent. I was in charge of the welfare of all the girls at the summer school, which included delivering any prescription medicine when required. I was also in charge of fire registers, unwell children and writing a number of the medical policies which were instigated in my second year there. The 2020 summer school which I was asked to work at was cancelled.
Chemistry Tutor / Durham University: October 2018 – June 2019
I tutored a boy in A-Level Chemistry and helped him to achieve the B he required for his choice of university, a significantly better result than from his mocks. I would have tutored his sister in 2020 but her exams were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
English Teacher / Greenway School, Samrong, Cambodia: February 2017
This role involved teaching English to young children (aged seven to ten) from impoverished backgrounds. This required creativity to communicate across language barriers and organisation as I was required to fully plan all lessons, including weekly tests.
Perfect! Rachel is very methodical in her teaching and experienced with both the content and specifications. I would strongly recommend Rachel.
Rachel is a wonderful chemistry tutor. She supported my son at A level and this support made a big difference to his grade. Rachel was so positive with him, so focussed, well organised and knowledgeable yet always very approachable. I cannot recommend her highly enough.
