I'm an enthusiastic & friendly teacher offering tuition on flute, piano and music theory, who likes to make lessons enjoyable & motivating. I currently offer a free consultation lesson for anyone interested in starting music lessons.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach: flute (& piccolo) from beginner to advanced; piano from beginner to intermediate level (Grade 5); and music theory from beginner to Grade 6. I also offer tuition for Music GCSE & A-Level.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I hold a BMus (Hons) Flute degree and a Master's in Orchestral Performance, both from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Prior to higher education, I obtained four A-Levels (Music B, Mathematics B, French C, German C), Grade 8 Flute (Distinction), Grade 8 Piano and Grade 5 Music Theory (Distinction).
- How much do you charge?
I charge £15 for 30 minutes, £20 for 45 minutes and £24 for 60 minutes. If for example you require tuition for 2 children allocating 30 minutes each, I will only charge £24 for the one hour of teaching, as opposed to £15 per 30 minute lesson. Depending on the distance and time to travel to your home, I may have to charge travel expenses. I also offer a free consultation session for anyone interested in starting lessons.
- Where do you teach?
I prefer to teach at the pupil's own home and I'm more than willing to travel. If this is not possible, I can arrange for lessons to take place at a different venue in Cardiff.
- When are you available?
Monday - Saturday mornings, afternoons, evenings. I am more than happy to teach throughout the school holidays/half term/bank holidays.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
All ages and standards of pupils are welcome.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I am completely flexible to the pupil's own needs, simply learning for fun in a relaxed environment or if they wish to work through graded examinations, I can prepare pupils for either ABRSM or Trinity exam board syllabuses.
- What kind of experience do you have?
Before starting University, I had a lot of academic tutoring experience, including modern languages and mathematics. I now teach privately full-time in South Wales and have been for the last 3 years. Alongside this I have worked as a deputy flute teacher at the RWCMD Junior Conservatoire and I volunteered for the 'Making Music Changing Lives' charity as a music coach, providing tuition and support for children in disadvantaged areas.
In terms of performance, my experience ranges from professional orchestral work with Welsh National Opera to performing on TV, CD & soundtrack recordings and occasionally performing as a soloist.

Yes, my most recent DBS Certificate (full) is dated July 2015 from working with the National Youth String Orchestra as Pastoral Staff.
