I have mostly tutored GCSE students. First teaching specification content then moving onto exam papers and pushing exam skills and how to answer different types of questions as this is how top grades are received. However I am flexible and can adapt my lessons the suit different students.
For over two years now, I have tutored for maths, science and 11+. I have helped three students long term and occasional help with homework for more. I have 7 A*s, 3 As and a B at GCSE and 2 As and a B at A-Level in Mathmetics, Chemistry and Physics respectively.

My name is Emer-Jo and I am highly motivated and hardworking 19 year old student and have recently started studying Civil Engineering at the University of Leeds. I spent five years studying at King Edwards VI Handsworth Grammar School for Girls and a further two at Bishop Vesey’s Grammar school, attending these schools stretched me both academically, socially and further enhanced my communication skills. I am able to work effectively as part of a team while also able to use my own initiative to make decisions which I have demonstrated during a Sports Leaders Qualification in which I obtained a Distinction. I am reliable and consciences and have a drive to see things through to completion.
• Throughout my school career I have received numerous certificates for being in the top 10% of my school year and for other academic achievements.
• Excellent grades in my 11 GCSE exams which will support my future aspirations to seek a career in engineering.
• Completed and collected my Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award during a visit to the Palace Gardens.

Babysitter – ongoing
I babysit for a number of children ranging from 2 to 13 years of age both in the evenings and during the school holidays. I have found these opportunities challenging yet rewarding at the same time, it has supported the development of my communication skills and problem solving. Interactions with the children have been slightly different, as one child I babysat for had autism, which has showed me that each has their individual needs which I have been able to meet. Employers have found me to be reliable and commented that I work well using my initiative. I have also tutored for over two years now, maths tutoring and 11+ tutoring, so I am confident in helping children complete work and finding fun ways for it to be interactive for them.
Retail Assistant – 07/12/2015 – 26/12/2015
During my temporary Christmas post at Next I developed working relationships with other members of staff and vastly improved my communication skills and confidence when approaching the public to assist them to the best of my ability. I learnt how to carry out numerous tasks on the till, including: processing an order; refunding returns (both directory and those bought in store); ordering an item for costumers; collecting parcels; and looking up stock availability. I also learnt how to deal with costumers’ queries quickly and effectively whilst still carrying out necessary tasks, such as recovery of the shop floor.
Retail Assistant – 01/08/2016 - 01/08/2017
Central England Co-operative
I worked on the shop floor helping customers find items within the store. This role has improved my communication skills as I had to adapt the way I speak, speaking to a young child looking for ingredients to bake a cake is not the same as an elderly costumer who needs help reading the price tags.
Working out what stock was needed to be replenished further developed my organisational skills, as I had to work with multiple cages of stock. The shop also had to look tidy at all times and I would be called to work on tills during busy periods. This demonstrates I can work under pressure as I had to multi task throughout my shifts. I push to do my best and finish the task I’ve started, due to my independent drive to achieve.
Warehouse agency worker – 01/08/2016 – 01/08/2017
Over the Christmas break I worked in the Office Team warehouse for a period of four weeks. They were in the process of moving to a new warehouse, my jobs mainly resolved around checking that stock was in the correct place in the new warehouse and that audits were completed accurately. I also supported managers during the Christmas stock take which took a large team to complete and the required the information to accurate and precise. I worked a number of shift patterns during this employment.
I have been fortunate to gain some invaluable work experience working within the public sector. In July 2015 I spent two weeks at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital and a further week at Manchester Royal Infirmary and Eye Hospital in 2016. I shadowed doctors on their daily rounds, entertained patients, shadowed nursing staff and observed minor heart surgery.
I have also been given the opportunity to assist with teaching at Birmingham Stage School. I support leaders in teaching younger children the basic steps and support new students to settle in.
I volunteered for two hours on a Monday afternoon at Abbey Rose Care Home in Erdington alongside my sixth form studies. The home has numerous patients suffering from dementia. My role involved helping the activities coordinator keep the residents active and stimulated through puzzles and problems. I would also have conversations with residents and encourage them to remember as much as they can. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience because it allows me to give something back to my local community and enrich the lives of the elderly.
All of these experiences have supported my communication skills and demonstrated that I am conscientious and committed to identified tasks.
I have been an active member of Birmingham Stage School for a number of years where I attend weekly. The main skill this hobby has taught me is discipline and the need to adapt to different situations. It has given me experience in many public places, such as performing in pantomime at the Birmingham Hippodrome during four seasons and cheerleading for the Leicester Tigers Basketball Team. I am passionate about my dancing and enjoy helping others to learn and experience it. I am also currently learning to play the flute and bag pipes. I enjoy reading and keeping fit.
